Tonight was my first time at Remedy. It was a busy night but the music was great and stayed at a perfect volume throughout the night and the crowd was diverse and friendly. What's so 👎🏼 about the whole night was that it was actually
This was my first time there so I apologize for not knowing the names of the staff to be able to reference them now. There were three bartenders - two of them were males and one was a female. I was at Remedy for quite a few hours and had nothing but good experiences with the two male bartenders as they were the ones who happened to serve my first two rounds. Of course, they were just as busy as the female but they remained as attentive and friendly as can be and actually seemed to do their best to work at a fast pace to keep up with the large crowd (as you'd assume anyone working this shift on a Saturday night, would be expected to do). The female, however, was * shockingly offensive * and disrespectful. She made very visibly nasty expressions on her face obviously and repeatedly, at patrons as they/we waited upwards of 40 minutes at the bar to merely order a very simple drink or ask to close our tabs. Her spoken attitude gave us the impression we were a total bother to her shouldn't be there. Let me be clear- This was NOT some seemingly established quirk or playful style of bartending that some professionals can pull off with a little attitude and swag. This was enough to ruin the way I wanted to be there continuing to meet people and have fun. The rest of the hours of good experience there, and the hundred dollars I spent there- now feel regretful because of the way she ended my experience there. If I ever do return, ill absolutely do my due diligence to see who's working the bar...
Read moreAfter a decade away from Remedy Bar, I walked in expecting a typical late-night stop—and instead, I was met with absolute magic behind the bar. Liz is not just a bartender; she is an artist, a host, and a true professional in every sense of the word.
From the moment I sat down, Liz welcomed me with a warmth and friendliness that made me feel like I had been a regular for years. Her energy is magnetic—genuine, attentive, and full of heart. I asked for a Mezcal-based drink, and what followed was a masterclass in both mixology and hospitality. Liz didn’t just pour a drink; she took the time to educate me on the different types of Mezcal they carry, highlighting her personal favorites with thoughtful explanation. She crafted a cocktail from the menu that was excellent, and then she created something completely original—off the cuff, just for me—and it was phenomenal. Truly one of the best drinks I’ve ever had.
Throughout the night, Liz remained impressively attentive—not just to me, but to every guest at the bar. She was checking in, topping off waters, and ensuring everyone was taken care of with an ease and focus that made it look effortless. It’s no surprise that I later learned from the manager, Steve, that Liz recently won an award for her outstanding work and was promoted to shift lead. She absolutely embodies leadership—her skill, presence, and attention to detail are unmatched.
I even joked with Steve that I didn’t want anyone else to make my drinks—Liz had set the bar (pun intended) so high, anything less just wouldn’t do.
I came in tonight looking for a 4 AM bar. What I found was world-class service, creativity, and heart. I will be coming back to Remedy—not because it’s open late, but because Liz is there. And when Liz is behind the bar, you’re not just having a drink—you’re having...
Read moreThis place has an extensive beer and cocktail menu, so it's sure to please everybody. I live right around the corner from it, but I would frequent Remedy just as much if I didn't live in Bucktown. If you're a rye drinker, The Asshattan is the drink for you. Every time I order a drink here, I try to broaden my horizons, but I almost have to order The Asshattan. The Cellar Door is also one of my favorites here, mostly because I'm a fan of Bulleit bourbon. Even though The Remedy cocktail is a year-round drink, I'd recommend it for the summer time, because gin always tastes better in the summer. For the winter, I'd suggest getting The White Walker. It's difficult to make a drink with Fernet that doesn't completely slap you in the face, but some how Remedy nails it with The White Walker. A couple of months ago they added the rhubarberella which I recommend while it's still on the menu. Puns and roses is also a great option. Here's an added bonus to the bar, too. Even though the bartenders are completely knowledgeable about their craft, they're not super pretentious about it (you laugh, but you know that's rare). Special shout out to the bartender that served me a Miller High Life in a fancy glass, because after all, it is the "champagne of beers." Remedy has an extremely reasonably-priced happy hour, so I would recommend checking that out. Heads up, it does get pretty crowded during the happy hour times, though. It's definitely one of those happy hours you should take advantage of if your 9-5 job gets out a bit early on a Friday.
Edit: Google asked me to update my review. It's...
