Standing Passengers — Restaurant in West Chicago Township

As of November 2023, I officially joined the ranks of coffee enthusiasts, and my quest for a new coffee haven led me to the delightful Standing Passengers Coffee Shop. Caught in a dilemma between Standing Passengers and Typica Cafe, fate intervened when Typica Cafe, despite its posted hours of 7:00 to 19:00, was inexplicably closed at 18:30. Lucky for me, this twist of fate guided me to Standing Passengers.

From the moment I stepped into Standing Passengers, I was engulfed in a wave of nostalgia emanating from its charming retro vibes. The aesthetics of the place instantly captivated me, and I found myself falling in love with every detail. My craving led me to order the Vanilla Latte, and it was nothing short of perfection.

What sets Standing Passengers apart, aside from their delectable coffee, is the infusion of old-school charm. The place boasts several TVs, each hooked up with classic gaming systems. As someone who grew up with these games, I couldn't resist the allure and found myself immersed in a gaming session even before sipping my coffee.

I visited on 11/14/23, around 18:45, and the barista's friendliness added to the overall positive experience. The service was impeccable, and the vibes were unmatched. To the barista, thank you for your warm service and the fantastic atmosphere you delivered.

Standing Passengers has now become my go-to coffee spot. It's not just about the delicious coffee; it's the perfect fusion of a chill vibe and a trip down memory lane with those old-school games. I wholeheartedly recommend this gem to anyone in search of a unique coffee experience.

I’ve lived in the city for 15 years in various neighborhoods throughout and this one takes the cake as my favorite café. Standing Passengers serves delicious coffee, they carry tasty donuts, Cafe Tola breakfast tacos, and make their own sandwiches.

Food & Drink: I just finished my Turkey and Cheddar sandwich and it was amazing. The bread was chewy and soft, the cold cuts top tier, and the cheddar with the bed of their lettuce mix really hit the spot. Previously, I've had their old fashioned donuts and the blueberry as well as the apple fritter. Can't go wrong by adding a donut to your favorite coffee. My go-to is the Iced Americano or straight espresso + drip.

Vibe: Special mention to the folks who run the cafe, they are all wonderful, welcoming people and I look forward to seeing them when I come in. I love to swing by and stay awhile when I need to get out of the crib to change the scenery while I am WFH. The interior aesthetics are amazing and fun to experience. For me, it's like a walk down memory lane of my childhood sleepovers with all the OG video game consoles (GoldenEye N64 multi-player, come on!), skateboards on the wall, the skeleton up front, and the neon lights they got set up inside. I usually bring noise-cancelling headphones for cafes with the tendency to play terrible or unfamiliar music, but whoever's in charge of the music they play in the background has great taste. Fun coffee shop with a casual vibe. It might be easily overlooked if you are not searching for it. This place has all the standards and more and serves bakery items, large breakfast tacos and even sandwiches. The breakfast tacos are large and delicious and the cappuccino was tasty and had me buzzing though work. There is comfortable couch style seats and more work friendly table tops.
