Great Plates customer. Unfortunately this restaurant didn't follow the rules to provide restaurant quality meals to seniors during the pandemic. They got paid $66 for 3 meals per day per person on their provider list. The food delivered wasn't their restaurant food. They subbed it out to a 3rd party. I requested less meals to 2 per day. They said that wasn't possible. Other counties provided that option and adjusted their fee to $44/day. I requested better food. Items from their menu and they laughed about it. I complained to the person in charge. Nothing changed. The food is nothing I would be willing to pay $22 a plate to eat or order off a menu. They have ribs on the menu I would love to try or noodles or many other things, but unfortunately they did not serve their restaurant food. If what I received is what this restaurant serves I would never be a customer after the program ends on June 30th. It's too bad, if it was good, I would have been a customer bringing lots of friends to eat there after the program ended, but I cannot recommend this place or its food based on the garbage they fed to me. Lots of it ended up in the trash can because I cannot eat three meals daily or I just couldn't stomach it.
Typical breakfast: Fake bacon, greasy omelets, untoasted English muffin sandwiches, high gluten oatmeal with two small bites of cantaloupe.
Lunches and dinners are unidentifiable mixtures of rice or quinoa with strange dry chicken or chewy meat. My dogs eat the meat. I get some maybe corn or black beans, or potatoes or chicken smothered in tumeric sauce. There is one item I think is decent but they only give a small bowl of that...it looks like whipped sweet potatoes. That's all in the meal but it's never enough given. It tastes good and I can eat it without gagging. This plate is one of the few that's filled to the top of the bowl. White rice on the bottom, canned corn and black beans over it with a few pieces of chicken. This one is edible but nothing I would be hunting for off their menu. I finally got my drinks sorted out. I ended up donating cases of orange juice to food banks. It was like pulling teeth to get the ice tea promised or other low calorie drink and decent sized water instead. That part got better yay!
This is a very honest review about what this restaurant did with FEMA's money. I'm sure I'm speaking out for older seniors who cannot speak for themselves.
This program was a success in other counties throughout Southern CA. I checked the reviews and saw the meals those people received and frankly I was so jealous they got real restaurant style meals directly from their provider, not some other people who...
Read moreThis place used to be awesome. It was a little pricey and very confusing to order at first if you are new to this type of soup based do it yourself all you can eat dining experience. That said, it has changed DRASTICALLY from the first couple of wonderful experiences that I had there. The All you can eat menu has been downsized, and the prices raised. Also even though you pay for all you can eat.. You no longer get all you can eat, Heck, i didn't even get my own hotplate or bowl, We got some kind of two sided half bowl,.. i got one side my date the other.
the problem with this arrangement is that I don't like the soup base that he does and you can not help but have over spill that mixes them together.
The new ordering system was bad enough, but then you got hit with the fact that you no longer get what you pay for. (at least you don't get what you used to. Half the broth, and less than half of the ingredients to put into it. The amount of beef, chicken and even the mushrooms, noodles etc. has been cut in half. To top that disappointment, and the worst change is that you can no longer take home your leftovers !! So, if you get the all you can eat order, which i usually take a few bites (sips) of .. you have thrown money away!!. I ususally never get a second helping of any of the add in items, i just like the combination that comes with the "all u can eat" It has the fish balls etc. Of course while explaining the new ordering ... The waitress talked us into the all you can eat and never told us this little fact until we asked for the "go cups". we had barely eaten anything and were used to always taking home most of our soup. But we found out we got scammed. Heck they are going to throw it out anyway (I hope) Now this place is overpriced, and non user friendly. A real disappointment as it was one of my favorite place. . I will never go there again .. it used to be pricey, but worth it.. .Now it is just a...
Read moreI've been going to this place since I was a child and have ordered the same things for the past 18 years, I think 18 years, I was a kid so I don't know the exact year I started. The original owners were awesome, a married couple who served us well and made us feel like family. I was sad to hear that they were selling the company.
The new owners took over about a decade ago, I think, but luckily they kept the same ponzu recipe. It's my absolute favorite and as I said before it's the same order every time I go: AYCE premium beef because it's softer and easier to chew compared to the wagyu. Wagyu taste better but I eat about 2lbs of meat and premium beef is just easier to eat. When you order AYCE your options are 4 orders of meat or veggies. One order is roughly 4 ounces of meat, I order 4 plates for 1lb of meat. Then I order another one when they bring it out. Usually I stop at 2lbs because it is a good level of fullness. However I might order another 2 plates if I feel brave. You get 3 options for dipping sauce but I only get the most important one: ponzu.
All you can eat: 31$ for regular 38$ for premium items. I get premium.
I usually finish everything in an hour or an hour and a half if I'm taking with friends which is usually the time limit anyways. 1.5 hours.
All in all this long story can be summarized into one sentence: as long as they keep that ponzu recipe then ill keep coming back. If you're a meat head like me you'll come back too.
Also, it gets busy around 7pm to closing so if you have a large group I suggest calling first so they can make...
