The venue is spacious, well-designed, and has plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. It's conveniently connected to the GW supermarket next door. However, as many have noted, this makes parking a challenge during peak hours.
As a fan of food halls, I appreciate the variety they typically offer. However, I feel like this trend is starting to get repetitive and boring. Southern California is a melting pot of unique cuisines and specialities, yet the selections here--ranging from fried chicken to sushi burritos--feel so uninspired and cater predominantly to Western tastes. These concepts are either overdone or trying too hard to be unique (I'm looking at you... "fusion" foods). I had higher expectations for the Asian food vendors, but even those were disappointing and mediocre. On top of this, the premium pricing does not match the quality or uniqueness of the food, especially when you can get something similar and better for half the price down the block.
I would have loved to see a more unique array of vendors, such as:
made to order fresh pasta stations Korean (or Taiwanese) shaved ice with traditional toppings authentic ramen: like Santouka Shilin Taiwan Street Snacks: mee sua, chicken cultlet, oyster omelette Japanese convenience store snacks: oden and egg sandos Solid, no fluff, traditional Mexican street tacos Vietnamese specialties: Like banh khot, banh cuon, and banh beo. Malaysian roti Taiwanese breakfast: rice balls, soy milk, you tiao
There is so much potential for a more dynamic, authentic experience (think of the vibes of Singaporean hawker stalls, Italian mercato centrales, or asian night markets). The redeeming features of this food hall are the lively bars and the occasional live entertainment. However, once the initial novelty wears off, I don't think there is much of a "return...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreHaven City Market has been open about three weeks now with many food options inside this modern food market. A few restaurants within the food market have yet to open but there are plenty of options right now. Plenty of seating inside and out but it does lack more High Chairs for your little ones. It was very busy on a Saturday afternoon as you can imagine and parking was hard to find because of it being a new food attraction in the city.
The AC system was working overtime to keep the space cool but it wasn't helping and caused many condensation leaks all over the place. Water would drip in random spots. I hope they can get this figured out quickly. Food can be on the expensive side but I imagine the rent for each food stall at this market can be expensive as its new. I got a plate of chicken katsu curry at one food stand I forget name but it was tasty but their cabbage side could have used a punch of some sort of dressing.
I would come back here during the week to avoid the big weekend crowds that I'm sure will calm down after a few weeks of this place being open. Nice market to bring the family for a meal but be ready to pay a nice penny for...
