THIS PLACE WILL STEAL FROM YOU!!!!!
In the last year I have been here 4 times, and each time they make a "mistake" on our tab and have to refund us between $5-10. The first time we were charged for 4 children, instead of 3. I thought this might have been an honest mistake. a month or so later they up-charged my youngest two children to the next age bracket and claimed to be bad at guessing kids ages (and didn't bother asking). the next time a month or two later, I was very wary of this place, and again, they didn't ask ages and up-charged my kids without ever asking the ages. I asked to see the manager that time and he just nonchalantly refunded me $5, like it was a very ordinary happening. and the last time, I mean LAST, was today. We hadn't been there in 9 months, but we were in a rush and it was really convenient, so we gave them another chance. This time I didn't give them the opportunity to screw it up. I went up to pay before she brought the tab and told her my kids ages. She gave me the total, it sounded high, ($51) so I confirmed with her 2 adults, one 9 year old, one 6 year old, and one 3 year old. she said yes, and she even read me the prices for each back to me. It was $10.79/adult, $7.35 for the older 2 kids, and $5.25 for the youngest. But somehow my total came to $51... it sounded odd to me, but I was thinking tax, drinks maybe... (drinks ARE included but I wasn't sure). I got back to the table and added it up. $41 was the real total. I went back up there and was pretty P.O.ed. I said you overcharged me $10. she said, oh, ok sorry, I didn't know the kids ages. WHAAATT?!? I told you their ages right before you rang it up, AND you said it back to me twice. then she said, "oh, i guess computer is making wrong calculation." THESE PEOPLE ARE THEIVES. it is obvious to me now that it is their policy to overcharge 10% and they probably get away with it 90% of the time.
I would highly discourage supporting this establishment, but if you do, double check your ticket. especially if you have kids. don't let yourself be an easy target for...
Read moreWe tried China King for the first time and overall, it was a good experience. When we walked in, the staff cleaning the front gave us a seat right away, within a minute. She wasn’t exactly friendly, but maybe that’s just how she normally is.
They had a good variety of food, mostly focused on Chinese dishes, which makes sense given the name China King Buffet. Some trays weren’t hot or freshly refilled at first, but I noticed they rotated the food and brought out fresh ones shortly after, which I appreciated.
My favorites were the green beans and broccoli. They were cooked just right, still crunchy and a bit salty, but not too much. The chicken broccoli was also really good. I loved the butter shrimp and especially the teriyaki chicken on a stick. It looked like grilled satay but was actually marinated and fried teriyaki-style, super flavorful. They also had a really tasty salmon dish, though I’m not sure what it’s called. My husband said their lo mein was good too.
As for dessert, they had fruits and sweets, but I wasn’t a big fan. I was also hoping for chicken wings, but unfortunately, they didn’t have any.
The ambiance was better than I expected. It was clean, spacious, and they offer both booths and regular tables. Staff kept the place tidy, clearing plates and even mopping the floor when needed. Just a heads-up: they only give you one set of utensils, so don’t leave your spoon and fork on your empty plate or you won’t get another.
It’s a kid-friendly place. Casual, welcoming, and with small machines near the entrance that have toys or stickers for kids. There’s also enough space for strollers and high chairs. Wheelchair accessibility was good too. There’s an accessible parking lot, entrance, and plenty of room between tables to move around comfortably.
🕒 Hours: Closed on Mondays Tuesday–Sunday: 11:00 AM – 9:00 PM

Read moreDuring Finals week last semester I decided to explore the different Asian buffet options in Fargo/Moorhead. Having gone to virtually all of the 10-ish options, I can say that China King is one of the only options in FM that is worth going to, with the other being Giant Panda (which just barely edges China King out some days, but more recently has become a lot saltier), Royal Buffet is a distant third. Overall this is the place to go for a Chinese buffet in FM!
Most of the places around here have very little flavor, even if they have tons of options. Asian food that seems devoid of spices other than salt and sugar isn’t worthy of the name. China King has a good selection and, most importantly, pretty much everything tastes great! Friendly staff, relaxing atmosphere, and good pricing (as of 8/20/2023, $12.95 lunch buffet weekdays, $15.79 dinner buffet weekdays, $15.79 all-day on weekends). If you’re looking for a good, flavorful buffet in Fargo/Moorhead, this is a...
