This is a great hidden gem in West Haven, CT. My mom and I were driving through town, and we decided to come here for a bite.
My mom suggested it, as she comes here with a friend on occasion and they both love it here!
I'll also note that this was my second time here, and very impressed both occasions.
The first time I came here was about 13 years ago, to pick up a TO -GO food order for friends and I.
I remember even back then, I thought the food was good and they packed my To Go order great! No messes, spills, & the whole order was perfect!
I distinctly remember being impressed with that as that is not usually the case at other establishments. Not with Georgie's dinner though! Perfect, even back over a decade ago
To get back to yesterday's visit with my mom, it was excellent. We were greeted immediately and told to pick wherever we wanted to sit. Nice flowers outside windows to enjoy. Comfortable booths, but you can also sit at the counter on a stool.
They have a fantastic menu for breakfast, lunch, sides, and other various options.
My mom & I both love and appreciate that they have organic, dairy free, vegan & gluten free options. There is also a vegan section on the menu, which is lovely.
I ordered Full Stack of Buckwheat pancakes with blueberries. They have the real maple syrup available as well, and vegan and regular butter. These buckwheat pancakes were delicious and hit the spot! They were so good, and filling but didn't feel lethargic after. It wasn't too heavy.
Also got a Greek Pita and it was absolutely delicious as well. My mom got a vegetable medley side and a wrap. She enjoyed her food very much too.
She got a special type of coffee with almond milk. She loved her drink and loved the almond milk option as well.
She also was impressed and loved the brand of herbal tea they have available as well.
We both got containers to go, as there was good sized portions, so we got to bring home to enjoy the rest.
I also placed an order to go for my significant other, and he wanted the appetizer Mac & cheese and a cheeseburger.
The temperature stayed good even though we made a few stops along the way. ( It was a cooler rainy day too)
He said the mac & cheese was delicious and the burger was cooked well, as he asked, and he was happy with his meal as well.
Food was great, service was great and they were helpful when we had questions. Friendly waitress, aware of our needs, and was so patient when I was waiting to hear back for the take home portion of the order.
Service was pretty quick, and to get check and to pay.
The decor is awesome! I love the old style look on both outside and inside of the restaurant. The whole place has a great vibe to it.
Clean tables and seats, clean bathroom fully stocked.
There is a door for restrooms and that opens up to two individual bathrooms.
Love the look and decor inside the dinner. Had such a cool vintage vibe. & Just a great feeling overall.
I like that there are seating areas outside if desired. It's set up nice with flowers and bushes around to keep some privacy from road.
Also, in the entrance of the diner, you can walk up a few steps to get to the door, or they have a ramp on the other side to get up to the door.
That's important for those that need it so wanted to make note of that.
Ramp is so great for those that that have trouble walking or going up steps. Individuals In wheelchairs, using crutches or anything where you can use a little extra support by utilizing ramps.
Plenty of easy parking in a free parking lot. Not far from main roads & highway.
The bathroom I went in, also had a child's diaper changing station. In addition, they have highchairs available for kids as well.
Georgie's Diner is great for food, atmosphere, a great vibe, and service Clean, accomodating in any way they can.
Super impressed and loved it here. I will definitely be returning again!
Would Recommend this for breakfast lunch or anytime really.
We went at around 4pm on a Thursday and it wasn't too...
Read moreFor all those who have Celiac Disease and those who eat vegan. There was a great disconnect from statements made on website to service that was provided. Drove 20 minutes from Fairfield, CT, for breakfast based on statements made on website that staff is trained and monitored to ensure vegan and gluten free dishes are not compromised and that kitchen staff take great care to use separate equipment, special utensils , and proper procedures when preparing guten free items. This was not my experience and their statements did not hold true.
I witnessed chefs cookiing all foods on same one grill with same utensils. When I explained to waitress that my daughter has Celiac Disease, with a condescending attitude she said that everything is made on the grill, but they wipe it off. When I made the request to have her breakfast prepared in a separate pan with separate utensils, as stated on website, waitress said, "No, we don't do that."
When I explained that my daughter was unable to eat there I was given a $10.20 bill for one small orange juice, coffee and English muffin that I ordered for myself with an attitude of dismissing us quickly.
When hostess asked how everything was. I explained our situation and told her that my daughter could not eat there. I also explained that my request to prepare my daughter's breakfast separately so that her gluten-free meal would not be compromised, as stated on Georgie's website, was not honored. Unphased by my explanations, hostess said, "Oh, we don't do that on a busy day."
We are a family who dines out frequently and understand that there is a possibility of a slight cross-contamination when eating in restaurants, as stated on Georgie's website; however, there would have been nothing slight about food contamination should we have continued to order breakfast for our daughter that day.
Again, there was a great disconnect from statements made on website to service that was provided. Not worth the trip, since you can't trust what you will get.

Read moreStopped here for dinner during the return trip from Boston. Tried finding something to satisfy everyone's dietary preferences in the town before with no luck until Georgie's Diner popped up, and wow what a 'meal-saver'! The building itself is so unique, it's the 'real deal' of a diner and it actually was moved to the current location from elsewhere! It is enchanting, from the beautiful chrome outside to the real neon tubing lights on the inside, I wish I would've longer to admire it! As lovely as the building is, I know the food is the real focus here! The menu is diverse, the portions generous, and super delicious. There are several fantastic options for vegans or vegetarians, not just side salads or fries! I opted for the vegan club with fruit and had my expectations exceeded. The sandwich was beautifully presented, contained the 'just right' amount of ingredients, and the fruit was truly fresh with wonderful variety. No mushy sad bits of unripe melons here, folks, there were even blueberries in it! Others at the table opted for pasta dishes, one a vegan dish the other a meat one. They too were enthusiastic about their meals and were very happy to have stopped at Georgie's Diner! I think we spent most of the meal talking about how we need Georgie's Diner where we live, and afterwards have half-jokingly talked about driving up that way (4~5 hours) just to go again. Even the flowers in the bathroom were real, which I found so sweet as it really shows the love and pride for Georgie's Diner the employees have. We had a young waitress that must've been training as her first job over the summer, but she did well on her own! Another waitress, we thought might be her mother, was by her side supporting her and making sure we were well taken care of- we were! It wasn't too busy when we went, but there was no lack of service and the food came out quickly and the water glasses stayed full. It was such a great experience, absolutely worth visiting if you're in the area or even if you have to...
