EDIT: I have since been given Pennsylvanian reeducation therapy by some friends. This dish, which in some countries is considered a war crime, is actually supposed to be like this. So I give it 8/8 for Amish authenticity, but my overall review still stands.
ORIGINAL POST: I ordered the special written on the board out front, "chicken and waffles". There was no description of the dish written, and I did not see it represented in the normal menu to check what it was.
I don't mind switching it up for something different and interesting now and then, but "chicken and waffles" has a pretty specific meaning with reasonable expectations attached to it. This special probably should have instead been titled, "please help us get rid of our extra, weird Christmas chicken pot pie filling, from the planet Venus, before it goes bad." This dish tastes exactly like it looks.
It came with soup and salad bar (not pictured). The tray of Sysco surplus mixed lettuce at the bar was turning brown, but the assorted cut vegetables were nice. The soup was as alien as the chicken and waffles; it appeared to be some kind of cheese or egg drop soup, with hard boiled eggs floating in it. I did not try it.
The wait staff never returned after serving our food; I don't blame them, I...
Read moreI'm not a fan, but my wife is. She likes the all day breakfast and the kids like the cheap pancakes. My oldest also loves the salad bar and my mother in law often goes for the potato soup.
I guess I'm a little harder to impress. There's nothing like a good omlette. Theirs is nothing like a good omlette. It's dry, too thick, and they just lay American cheese squares (up charge for that) inside it. The hamburger was ok for a local joint, but I can get the identical one at Jane's Cafe at Darrencamps for literally half the price with the same fixings and twice as fast.
Some waitresses are rude; brusque might be a better word. Another's fingernails were caked in dirt. Been there a bunch of times because the rest of the family loves it, but I always wonder why I went, especially after paying the bill. Most items are about 1-2$ more than they should be for what you get.

Read moreStopped in for breakfast on a Saturday morning. Parking lot was full but they had plenty of space! We were seated quickly. The waitress was not a personable type who did the basics and nothing else; came by when we got her attention but never asked about quality or offered any smiles. Coffee was hot and strong. The food was DELICIOUS! Eggs Benedict were on point. My son loved the strawberry Belgian waffle - not too much sugary glaze and plenty of whipped cream on a fluffy waffle. My boyfriend’s eggs were cooked exactly as ordered. We got the cream chipped beef so I could try it - I’m not from this area - but he said it was not a good representation of what it should be. Overall a pleasant lazy breakfast at a...
