A soulful lunch that felt like home My wife and I had lunch at Kayla’s Kitchen today, and it was nothing short of amazing. From the moment we walked in, the service was warm and attentive — the waitstaff made us feel truly welcome. Our meals arrived quickly, piping hot, and bursting with flavor. We both ordered the beef stuffed cabbage, which was hands-down the star of the show: tender, savory, and perfectly seasoned. For sides, we chose a variety — greens, speckled beans, honey-glazed sweet potatoes, and parsley butter potatoes — each one cooked with care and full of rich, comforting flavor. And then there’s the cornbread. Both the Mexican and traditional versions tasted just like Grandma used to make — golden, moist, and deeply satisfying. To finish, we shared the strawberry cream cake, which instantly transported me back to school-day desserts. It was moist, refreshing, and the perfect sweet ending to a memorable meal. Bonus points for the rotating daily menu — we’ll definitely be back to explore more of Kayla’s delicious offerings. This place is a gem.

After hearing good things, I wish I could say the same. I walked in at 11:50, it was somewhat busy, but not too much. Several empty tables and most were eating. After waiting 5 minutes I was told to sit wherever. I chose a table one back from window. A 4 top came in behind me and sat next table. Two servers walked passed me several times and no acknowledgement. She took the 4 tops order, who came in after me, brought their drinks and walked off. At 12:05 I still hadnt been acknowledged. The next server that came by I asked if I could be waited on. She stopped long enough to ask if I had been waited on...😳 another girl came to the table and asked for my drink order to which I told her sweet tea with lemon. I asked about the chicken salad, and ordered it on a croissant with a fruit side. It took her three times of the same question to write it down and left. 12:10 At 12:14 I got my tea..very weak tea with a sliver of old lemon. At 12:20 I stopped yet another server to ask about my food. She said she'd check. A few minutes latwr she cane back with two checks and told me I hadnt ordered a side. YES, I DID. She told me these orderes werent mine. Where is my food? I guess she didnt turn it in! What? 😡 I told her Id been here since 12:50 and waiting on my food all that time, ignored by everyone and flagging bith servers down every time. She walked away and didnt even apologize. I told her I was leaving I had an appt in 10 minutes. Then she made me pay $2 for that undrinkable tea and never once apologized! My first and last time going to this place. Not a manager in site. Absolutely the worst service Ive gotten in any local eating place here. Ive been to several other local West Monroe eats and got exemplary service and food..and they had to COOK IT. That server couldnt be bothered to turn my cold order in! She didnt even say hello, welcome, my name is... nothing! No idea of either severs...

Hubby and I at lunch at Kayla’s today. Wait staff and cashier was very friendly and helpful. I got the Cheesy Chicken with Speckled Butternbeans, Ranch Potatoes, a side salad and corn muffin. My husband got the Bourbon Porkchop, Squash Stuffing, MAC N Cheese, side salad and MexiCornmuffin. Iced Tea comes with it. We could have gotten a dessert but opted to add the extra veggie. It was $20 total inc tax. Lots of food that tasted great, although the corn muffin was dry. Other than that it...
