I was visiting my besties in WPB and I knew about this joint because one of my besties goes there periodically and loves it so I had high expectations. Don't you love it when a joint is hyped up and when you finally visit, it doesn't disappoint...this is one of those. Waitstaff is very welcoming, accommodating, friendly and kinda funny. It's a not a big restaurant but limited seating instead but we only waited like 15 minutes. So now that we know the service is on point let's talk about the food...
Crab empanadas: one of the specials were these delicious crab empanadas which is self explanatory. Fresh shredded juicy crab meat stuffed in the golden brown little fried dough pockets...yum
Sangria: I wanted to order this sangria mostly for the way it's served in a cute plant watering can and I love picture worthy drinks. The sangria itself wasn't bad but it could use more brandy or wine for it was more on the watered down side but absolutely refreshing.
Mofongo: obviously if you come to a mofongo joint you gots to try this puertorican staple dish and this was one of the best I've tried to date. They had a few different specials but I opted for the two lobster tails with shrimp in garlic sauce. Listen the mofongo alone was amazing especially because it's stuffed with chicharrón but also because it wasn't dry. Then add two perfectly cooked lobsters tails and shrimp in that white creamy garlic sauce and ohh la la.
Bandeja Casa del Mofongo: my boy got this as a main because if you see the pic I posted you'd tell how generous they are with portions, 4 people could easily share this. Tostones, pork belly, sausage, fried cheese and pork chunks. Everything was flavorful and although it was all fried, it wasn't soaked or drenched in grease.
Tiramisu: now this thing comes served in a moka pot utilized a lot by Latin people so we were just impressed with presentation. Although we could barely tasted the coffee, instead of lady fingers they use a cake that's to die for. It was so good I had to order a second one, something about that "possibly" vanilla cake that was so moist and fluffy. All I'm saying is, you gotta have this dessert.
Coffee: they brought us this whole thing to make the coffee from scratch and let me tell you that presentation wise I was super impressed. My boy prepared the whole thing and final result was “chefs kiss” for this coffee was the perfect ending to a great lunch.
All my friends enjoyed their mofongo dishes, the dessert, the coffee and all agreed on the excellent service so we are coming back for sure. That being said, I definitely recommend this joint to get your mofongo fix even if you have to...
Read moreThis weekend, my partner and I, along with some friends, had the pleasure of dining at "La Casa del Mofongo" in West Palm Beach. I had stumbled upon a captivating reel on Instagram, and my anticipation to visit this place was off the charts, given my profound love for Dominican cuisine. The name alone had my taste buds tingling, promising a wide array of mofongo variations.
As the menu suggests, you can customize your mofongo with a plethora of options, including seafood, meat, and tres golpes. The extensive menu had us all eager to dive into the flavors of the Dominican Republic. From the very first bite to the last sip, we were thoroughly impressed with everything we ordered. The entrees, dishes, and drinks all hit the mark, leaving us with satisfied smiles and full bellies.
The service at "La Casa del Mofongo" is worth mentioning as well. The staff was not only efficient but also genuinely friendly. They made us feel welcome and at home, enhancing the overall dining experience.
The only drawback we found was the size of the restaurant, which, although cozy and comfortable, was quite small. This limitation can make it challenging to secure a table during peak hours, and it might get a bit cramped when the place is bustling with patrons. Given the popularity and the fantastic food, it's no wonder the restaurant can feel a bit snug.
Despite the size constraint, the generously portioned dishes more than made up for it. The mofongo servings were not only delicious but also hearty. It's safe to say that you won't leave "La Casa del Mofongo" hungry.
In summary, "La Casa del Mofongo" is a hidden gem in West Palm Beach for anyone who adores Dominican cuisine. With a diverse menu, delicious food, friendly service, and a cozy ambiance, this place is a real treat for the taste buds. If you're a fan of mofongo, it's a must-visit. My only suggestion to the owner would be to consider expanding to a bigger space to accommodate more enthusiastic diners. I would easily rate this restaurant 15 out of 10, and I can't wait to return for another...
Read moreThis place had a homey feel. Then, the nightmare began. We ordered our food and it took over 1 1/2 to get the food. It was a mofongo, like with a place called casa del mofongo, you should have it down yo a science. Hubby got his food and there was an item missing, at which they told us that item was just for the photo, REALLY!!! My husband's food arrived before mine and it was ice cold. Lobster was rubbery and had a strong fishy taste. Mash potato was really cold. I received my food about 15 minutes after his, it was hot. But it was so salty and the mofongo had huge chunks of plantain that weren't mashed at all. ARE YOU KIDDING ME!!! WHAT A MAJOR DISAPPOINTMENT!!!! I WAS SO DISGUSTED I LEFT IT and still paid for it. Horrible place. Don't waste your time!!! Id give it no stars but you are force the one as the least.
Dear owner: TY for replying to my comment. I'm not an unreasonable person, and know things can go wrong. But your waitress told me of the special you had, which I ordered. If you didn't have lobster, I should have been told, and I would have ordered something else. For the food to me 1 1/2 hrs late and then so salty is just unacceptable. As the owner, you should have come to our table and explained this. If I were the owner, I would have sent out an entree on the house. Instead, you guys left my husband food get cold and then served it like that. I had planned visiting you guys for weeks, as I live in NY and chose you as a special meal out. I still gave your waitress a 20.00 tip as I am always mindful of working people. Perhaps on my next trip you can make it up on the house. I flew a long way out. Nonetheless, I wish your business success...
