Along stylish Penn Avenue sits this warm, contemporary trattoria with just a hint of the old country, specializing in savory, brick-oven pizza. You are greeted, seated, and served by a positive and upbeat staff. Your eyes are drawn to the brick oven behind the counter. The counter and bar area are surrounded by several seats under a small red-tiled Italian roof. You notice an area with seasonings and all the necessary accoutrements to an Italian dining experience. The dining area is very clean and organized. Casual music can be heard softly from speakers. Partial red walls and subtle overhead track lighting induce a very warm and inviting ambience. There is an understated elegance at work here. The décor consists of art, photos, and faux citrus plants. At each table sits a faux potted pepper plant. The server delivers two menus: a food menu and a small, but well-rounded wine list. Wines are separated into red and white and bottles are also available. There are draft beer specials written on a board. The food menu consists mainly of, you guessed it, brick-oven pizzas. There are plenty of unique and imported toppings. They also have paninis, appetizers, burgers, and salads. There are two items I am really excited to share. The first is the calamari. They can make it not one, not two, but THREE ways! One way is the standard breaded and fried. The second way is sautéed in tomato sauce. The third way is sautéed in a white wine sauce. I went with the white wine calamari and it was delicious! I have only ever had broiled or sautéed calamari at one restaurant ever, so it is an absolute rarity around here, so it's well worth trying when you get the chance. The second item that piqued my interest, but I did not order it, is Nutella pizza with your choice of strawberries or bananas. This is something I'm looking forward to for next time. Nonno Alby's also has a small case with Italian desserts.
Pros: Family friendly, diaper changing station in restroom(s), large party reservations accepted, catering available Cons: Frequent whistling heard from kitchen - this was distracting and not everyone likes it Other info: Peak hours are...
Read moreSmall size, big attitude. This small sized eatery is among one of my personal favorites in the area. It may be small, but it is still wonderful. The entire menu is amazing, even a picky eater will find their go-to meal. The wings are amazing! They cook them in the wood-fire oven, then add just the right amount of sauce or seasoning. I personally like the Honey Hot wings. The appetizers are next level too any place I've been to. I recommend the caprese salad or calamari. You can tell the level of care and preparation that goes into this establishment. Fresh dough for pizzas, fresh mozzarella, imported toppings from Italy for an authentic experience! I could go on and on about their pizzas, but you'll just have to see for yourself why they're one of the best pizzas around. What I used to consider really good pizza has since been ruined by these personal pizzas. Not really feeling anything "too fancy"? They do burgers too, which are as good as the rest of the food.
Now I know what you're thinking, "why is it priced so high? $9 for a personal 12" pizza? I'll go to Dominos instead"
It's 100% worth the price. The quality of food you get, the service, everything is worth it. Everybody on the wait-staff is knowledgeable about the menu and can give recommendations for anyone. I've never had bad service, or even sub-par service for that matter, here at Nonno Alby's.
In short, come here and expect an experience like no other you've had before....
Read moreThis place was everything I love in a restaurant and in pizza. Fresh, authentic ingredients on a perfectly cooked crust.
If I could give more than 5 stars I would. We had the Italian salami pizza (wonderfully priced at just $10) and the 4 cheese. I generally am not a fan of a white pizza, but the 4 cheese here has changed my mind. It was just outstanding, so much flavor. The perfect amount of gorgonzola to give it a little twang without being so strong that you can't taste the rest.
The salami is what looks like a pepperoni pizza but tastes so much better. Even though the meat was a little greasy, it wasn't too salty as I had feared and overall was the best thing I had last night, which is a big compliment considering everything was so good.
Hand cut fries, I would put up there with some of the best fries (boardwalk variety) I've had.
Petite Ceasar's only problem is petite does translate well into Italian as this was a good sized salad server on top of seasoned bread (pizza crust). A great combo and a meal all by itself.
I could go on and on. Server Kearsten is a 5 stars waitress as well, I got the sense that all servers were very good. Well run place.
Oh and thank you for the Christmas present at check out, nice touch...
