I am keeping my five-star review because I am an old West Sac guy and have been going here my entire life. In fact, my folks used to go here, and they went to James Marshall High. Whitey's has always been a staple.
However, I have to be honest. I understand the place is more popular than ever due to the WS population, but that doesn't mean it's better in my view. I used to enjoy the burger and fries, but that was before the menu change. The three times I've had it since the change, the deluxe cheeseburger no longer comes with mustard sauce, and the bun is now bigger and different. The burger is very bland and bready now. Yes, mustard can be added, but that's not the point. Additionally, the fries have changed from standard steak fries to fries with a sugar crust. Why? These crusted fries are horrible.
Another thing is, don't try to walk up and order anymore unless you're just getting a cone or shake—you'll wait a half hour or more while they fill the online orders ahead of you. Although they handle a lot of orders, a place this small can't manage the volume they're getting in a timely manner. It's very off-putting to watch people drive up and get their food while you've been waiting so long. Yes, they used to take phone orders, but with the current demand, this place should be first come, first served, or prioritize walk-up orders. Even though the front looks nice, I would definitely order online before arriving.
Sorry Whitey's, while I can appreciate the effort to better the business sometimes certain changes...

Whitey’s Jolly Kone is an old-school gem! It’s a classic drive-in style spot where you walk up to the window to order, and they serve up more than just ice cream cones—burgers, hot dogs, and even some Mexican food.
We started with their Big Burger, ordered just like it’s listed on the menu, and it did not disappoint. The patties were juicy, the buns held together beautifully, and the lettuce, onions, and tomatoes were crisp and fresh. We had another with bacon—perfectly cooked and just the right amount. The chunky steak fries were golden and hearty, exactly how fries should be.
All the seating is outside at picnic tables with umbrellas, giving it a fun and relaxed vibe. We didn’t wait long to order, and even though there was a bit of a wait for the food, it was right before the lunch rush, so totally understandable. They call out your order over the intercom when it’s ready.
Pro tip: Try to go before or after the lunch rush—because when it hits, it’s crack-a-lackin’! That said, parking was easy and there seemed to be plenty of it.
Bottom line: Whitey’s serves up one of the best all-American burgers I’ve had in Sacramento. If you’re craving a great burger with no frills, just flavor—this is the place. Don’t...
Read moreI heard about Whitey's a while back and decided to stop there while out for a 20 mile bike ride. Order counter is a walk up style and seating area is shaded outdoors with water misters at the 5 bench style tables nearest the counter. I perused the menu previously so I knew I wanted the Deluxe Double Burger🍔. Saw the peach shake was in season and figured why not, I'll burn the calories on my ride home. I was told it would be a 35 minute wait!! Turned out to be only a 10 minutes😃. Service was great. Double Burger(no cheese) at $6.50 it was a good 7. The ingredients were fresh but the patties could use a bit more seasoning for my taste. If you add bacon and cheese it'll probably add a ton of flavor and bump the score up to an 8 or 9. The smell of bacon wafting through the air had me regretting its omission. The Peach shake however, was phenomenal!! Although a bit pricey at $8 for a small (16oz), I'm inclined to say the splurge was kinda worth it. All in I spent $12.50. if you're hungry I would forego the shake and add fries and a drink instead. Definitely a nice spot to visit but they get busy around lunch time and seating can be limited so plan...
