Captain D's — Restaurant in West Virginia

I'm not big on seafood most of the time, but there are points when I really crave Captain D's fish. This store has tables for dining in and they also offer carry out. The parking lot is a little questionable, but the service here is what shines the most. Every time I've been here the staff has been friendly and patient. The food has been fresh (it's generally cooked to order). They have a really good product (for fast food). They offer a variety of products, from fish and chicken to stuffed crabs and shrimp. They have some of the best French fries in the area. I can't get enough of their Cole slaw and hushpuppies. The many times I have been there has been a small wait, but that's due to the volume of guests and the fact that they cook the food to order. For locals, if you watch your mail they typically send out sheets of coupons and you can often feed a family of 4 for about $20-25. Which, if you're like my family, is a good deal. The staff is a little younger, but their friendliness and eye for service really shines through. I've never had a bad meal here. They are stingy with their condiments either. Really, the only downside is their parking lot. There are like 3-4 spaces right off the street, but the small access road right beside the restaurant heading to their back parking lot can be a little precarious. It's really only wide enough to fit a single car at a time, so definitely be careful if parking in the rear. Once you get to the back there are an ample number of spaces. The wait is not too awful bad, but watch for weekends (especially Sundays) around dinner time. They can get pretty swamped, but they still are able to get you out pretty quickly. The fresh, hot food is worth a few minutes wait. To my knowledge this is really the only fast food fish place around as LJS recently closed. Captain D's is better anyway. This business has been in the same area for at least 20 years. I'm almost 40 and I remember eating here with my parents when I was a kid. So, if you want some nostalgia and some pretty good fried fish and hushpuppies I'd definitely recommend this place. I almost forgot to mention that you can also call your order ahead...

Must have been a new employee at the register this evening. She had difficulty ringing up two, 2 piece fish & fries. She had to ask another young lady for help. The establishment was busy and people was waiting for their orders. After 8 to 10 minutes a lady and her husband were sitting beside me. The lady said, "Did they forget about you?" Because the employee was calling out order numbers for people that came in behind me. I could clearly see my order was on the shelf waiting to be bagged up. It had been sitting there for at least 5+ minutes. I seen the employee open my order, looked inside, then went about doing other things. At this point I had enough and approached the counter and asked the employee who had helped her ring up my order what the hold up was? The employee who needed help ringing the order up quickly snatched up my order, hastily bagged it up. And in a snark fast voice said, "have a great day!" In which I replied, "hopefully I will now." I realize she must've had a rough day but that wasn't my fault that she's not properly trained to ring up simple orders like 2 piece fish and fries. I seriously doubt I'll be going back anytime soon. This is my most favorite place to eat. I had taken my friend there to eat for her birthday. We were served efficiently and quickly. Our order was to perfection. The server was the one I always like to get when I go there because she is so kind and generous. If I need anything while I am seated after I have been given my order, she happily retrieves it for me. She conversed with my friend about it being her birthday, and wished her a happy one, then opened the door for us when we were ready to leave as my friend had her rolator, and I had my cane. We talked several days about that delightful dinner, and how much we loved to go to Captain D's. Let me also mention the restroom was clean, and that was a plus for us too. What an enjoyable evening to remember and talk about in the future. Make sure you try a fresh baked potato sometime with your meal. They are delicious, and come with butter and sour cream!
