Brother's has the best pizza in town. I find Classico's dough and crust too thin and Aljon's too thick. This is the goldilocks choice for me and my family where I have lived around NYC in my 20s.
So why not 5 stars? I've gotten pretty tired of their pricing and marketing antics. The TLDR is pay with cash. I am hoping the owners can read this and realize it nickels and dimes frequent customers. Yes, your pizza is that good, you're a local business, and I would pay what you're asking, but just be clear with what you're charging and what I would be getting.
For marketing, it all started with a promotion for Buy 2 Get 1 Free, but turns out the free was the 1 topping on the 2 pizzas. Okay, weird headline promo to get people through the door. They've since physically taped over this promo with the correction. Then there was another for Buy 3 Mediums for the Price of 2. So I did, but turns out I had to explicitly mention this deal during the call. Fine. Then there was their family offer for 1 large cheese, with soda, and with a dessert for a reasonable price. Again, got to be explicit, but guess what, if you throw toppings, their "system" couldn't price the bundle. I've just given up on the promotions.
Then their "rewards" program -- Buy 6 larges, get 1 free. Instead of a punch card like everywhere else in the world, they have pizza boxes with this promo. You have to CUT out the promo portion and save the pizza box card. Absurd. But, I have a kid who has a weekly event nearby so we've made it a tradition, so let's just play along. I've since collected 4 ordering 1 large each week. Had friends over one weekend, ordered 3 larges. Guess what, the pizza boxes DID NOT have the promo. I guess for bulk orders (say a party or corporate event), they don't use the rewards boxes for obvious reasons, but this felt petty -- 3 larges, c'mon. I wasn't going to ask them to switch boxes, but again, ridiculous. I suspect there is a caveat with this promo here that the free pizza has to be cheese which would make the whole thing irrelevant.
Lastly, their pricing. They have a combination of cash discount (10%) and credit card fees (1-2%?). Here's the catch -- the physical menu pricing IS the cash pricing. So unlike Shanghai bun (not a pizza place) where the listed price is the base price for your cash discount, you must pay cash to get what is listed.
After writing this, as a "lifetime customer", I hope management reads this and figures out a good plan for all the mischegas listed above. They're a friendly, local, hard working, and most importantly, good pizza shop, but please ease up on the...
Read moreThis is the first time I’ve ever posted a review for any local restaurant that is negative. But tonight was the first time trying to order from here. I saw some reviews that were sketchy on how reliable the place is, but wanted to try them out. I order at 430 for an early dinner, was told 45 minutes, and figured it could be a little longer because traffic around here has been brutal lately.
An hour and 15 minutes later I call back and the food has not even left the store yet, and the woman offers me a free can of soda but was unsure how long it will take because of it being a “busy time” (I ordered at 4:30, not traditionally a busy time). She then puts the phone down when I ask for a better timeline, and I can hear them arguing for at least 5 minutes but know one can hear me talking, so I hang up to call back. But instead, she leaves the phone off the hook so it is just a busy tone every time I try to call back for the next 10 minutes.
I finally get through and a different person says 30 minutes at least, so I canceled the order and just drove to the place around corner. So it seems all of the negative reviews on here ring pretty true. The food may be great for all I know, but I’ll never get...
Read moreOrdering for years at Brothers in Princeton Junction and the pizza is good but the salads are not. Anyway, giving them business for three years or more here and when I tried to call just now, someone hung up on me. I tried again two minutes later and once again, someone hung up on me after picking up the phone. No words, nothing.
I called and finally someone answered the phone. I spoke to him and he said I should have ordered here earlier. I told him what happened those 2x and he said we are busy. I was trying to speak and told him that no one should do that to a customer as it's rude. The guy spoke over me and then hung up on me. Unbelievable! Customer service is not like it used to be. I'm guessing people think they can treat you like junk while you give them cash for a pizza that costs about one dollar to make. No more business OR the 20% tip I always give to the delivery men. This speaks volumes about Brother's and not about me....
