Junk & Java — Restaurant in Westerly

Steve and I have travelled around the United States looking for the best Coffee shops. We found the "BEAST of the EAST" coffee shop, JUNK & JAVA in Westerly Rhode Island! When it comes to barista's and pastries they are easily the best this side of the Mississippi! There are so many outstanding barista's there, it is hard to pick just one as the best. The Turmeric Lattes and cappuccinos they made were crazy good and addicting!! Coupled with a delicious pastry, it made for a relaxing enjoyable experience over coffee. Steve and I are pictured with the owner Alexis, affectionally nicknamed "Siri!" She puts her heart and soul into Junk & Java to set the interesting and eclectic atmosphere of this unique ONE OF A KIND coffee shop! The other picture is of Alexis with one of her STAR BARISTAS: nicknamed "Gardenia" after one of her tattoos. She could make a great Latte or cappuccino!! Junk & Java is THE major hangout location on the CT/RI border. There are a few other coffeehouses, but none compare in terms of ambiance and such a fun staff of Baristas.

The drinks and the pastries are all excellent, especially the bagels, but to me, where this place has been my base of operations whilst job searching the past few months, the gastronomic aspect is secondary to the friendly environment. And when you see so many students and professionals working while drinking their coffee, you’ll see why it is so popular; it’s well laid out and comfortable.

Also, they have an adorable gift shop (the “Junk” part of the name).

From the coffee, to the baked goods (I especially enjoy the whoopie pies) to the Baristas, Junk & Java is a unique experience that has no equal in our area and only a few comparisons in the many places I have lived in the United States. It is a must visit when you are in...

This is my favorite coffee shop in RI! Unfortunately I live an hour away so anytime I am in a fifteen minute radius I have to come!

This is usually a happening coffee shop, not really quiet enough to study or work but great fun to people watch. In the summer take advantage of the outdoor seating, lots of room!

They offer some treats, homemade Gelato and wonderful coffee creations. I've tried a few and can't decide which is my favorite. They have a cinnamon bun latte with real icing! They have a pb cup latte that is made with real peanut butter and topped with whipped cream and Reese's pieces. Their pumpkin latte was made with real pumpkin and sweetened condensed milk. All I can say is wow, wow, wow.
