Maria's Seaside Cafe — Restaurant in Westerly

TL:DR – We won’t be back to Maria’s, which is a shame given the limited number of dinner options in Misquamicut. We visit the area at least twice a year and were looking for a go-to spot. It’s not Maria’s.

We had high hopes for Maria's. We went on a Friday in August and were seated immediately, but that was pretty much the highlight. Our waiter took our drink order and then said he'd be back with bread - which never came. He came back with the drinks, took our food order and then disappeared for ~30 minutes. From what I could tell, he had 5 tables. Us (3 people), a party of 2, two parties of 4 and a party of 9 (including 3 small children). Was the table of 9 overwhelming? Nobody knows. We saw him attend the other tables, including bringing the table of 9 bread, but he never checked on us. After 30 minutes he came back to "check if we were good" to which I replied "No, we are not good!". We got another round of drinks and waited another 15-20 minutes for the food to arrive (which admittedly is on the kitchen, not our waiter). In his defense, the waiter apologized for the wait in getting the food, but we were more annoyed with his lack of even acknowledging our existence! From sitting down to the meals arriving was right around 55 minutes. When the food eventually came it was lackluster at best. The chicken in the Caesar salad was very dry. The mashed potatoes with my swordfish were borderline tasteless and the risotto lungomare, was ok but my wife said she wouldn't order it again.

Studies say when you have a good experience you generally tell about 4 people. When you have a bad experience you tell around 15. I've already told 7 people about our experience at Maria's, so maybe this post will be...

Was there with a friend for dinner Saturday night. We were Greeted by a really nice and accommodating hostess and host. They were quick to seat us and the accommodate us when we asked to move to the bar seats. From there service went down hill. The bartenders are not attentive at all. We waited for her to take our drink order for almost 10 min and watched as she delivered drinks to a couple seated at the bar after us. She seemed to know them which lead us to believe we were just being ignored. It then took almost 20 min for her to take our food orders. When the food finally arrived about 30-45 min after we placed the order I quickly realized what happened. Seems the surf and turf we left under the heat lamp. The steak (ordered medium rare) was dry and medium well. The stuffed shrimp, stuffing, was hard on top and soggy underneath. The bartender had a very dismissive attitude and we had to constantly flag her down to get water or additional drinks. it seems the bartenders are miserable and maybe it's their personality or how they are managed. Either way it's a reflection on how the restaurant is run. We decided to give it another chance at breakfast. The same bartender experience only this time she kept using the excuse "This is the first time I've worked breakfast so I can't answer your questions about the menu". The owner and management should be embarrassed that they allow a statement like that to a dining customer when they're selling a more upscale dining experience. I'd expect that at a deep friend clam roadside food truck not this place. I would give them another chance. Maybe it's just the beginning of the season and they're working out the kinks or maybe they need to rethink who runs...

Where do I start . 2.5 hours waiting for food or how rude the host was .. 6/5/2020 We arrived at 7pm . We decided to do outside dining. We had a party of 8 people .4 adults 4 children ages 2 yr 4yr 6 yr old & 12. As we were seated we asked the Host to turn on the propane heater . He didnt send a waiter until 7:40pm for our drinks. We asked again about the heater . They say they ran out of propane . After waiting 2 hours 9pm my kids were so cold and tired we sent them back to our hotel room Me and my brother waited another half hour clearly upset. The host was a coward. He would send over the waitress to tell us sorry your food is on it's way We had enough and asked to speak with the manager and wanted our food to go.

These people have no respect for family's. They littery would seat a party of 2 and serve them within 20 minutes. If you have a party over 2 ppl go somewhere else. Dont waste your time. They treated us like trash only did they know me & my brother both own serval businesses .

Here's the funny part . After all the b.s they put us through they came out with the food to go and a 400 dallor bill . And said we took off the drinks . We ordered 2 cokes . They try taken off $10 bucks We almost walked away . Then my brother said no way do something better . They finally gave 50%

Never again . Not only is service terrible but while we were waiting we seen atleast 10 people send back food because it was cold or disgusting.

I'd rather eat Burger King then eat at this place .

Dont waste your time or money...
