We ordered an early dinner from Uptown Deli and Brew. Before ordering, I called Uptown Deli and SPECIFICALLY asked if the bruschetta was AT ALL SPICY. The woman who answered your phone told me no, it isn't spicy.
When my husband came in to pick up our order, he AGAIN asked if the bruschetta was AT ALL SPICY and he SPECIFICALLY told the women that I cannot eat anything the least bit spicy! He was told by the woman at the bar (the same woman who took my phone call) that the bruschetta was not at all spicy.
So, imagine our incredible disappointment when I tried the bruschetta and it was SPICY!!! I always do my homework, calling the restaurant, double checking multiple websites (Yelp, Google reviews, Tripadvisor, etc...) and checking restaurant websites/menus to ENSURE my food isn't spicy because I CANNOT EAT ANYTHING SPICY!!!
My husband and daughter, who both love spicy foods, tried the bruschetta and both of them said it was SPICY! If they can tell something is spicy, certainly your staff should be able to discern that a dish you offer is at all spicy. And they should be able to tell a customer if a dish is at all spicy! And, if a customer goes to the extra effort to call before ordering, and the person picking up the order double checks, your staff should take that as a pretty strong indication that they NEED TO KNOW if something is spicy.
Unfortunately, we tried to rectify this with Uptown Deli and Brew and they had absolutely no interest in ensuring we return as customers. That's disappointing but there are so many great restaurants in and near Westerville. Our favorite deli is Jason's Deli, so well just stick to that because they have exceptional customer service.
Unfortunately, I won't be recommendung Uptown...
Read moreFood was good but the atmosphere and cleanliness of the restaurant were lacking. We were here about a year ago and it has declined.
We arrived about 5 minutes after opening at 11am. The front area had two tables that were not even wiped down and crumbs on the floor. The night staff had not cleaned up before opening that day.
The front area, where the glass displays store meat, cheese and other sides was disorganized and haphazard. There were even containers of some foods in plastic storage bins, the kind of bins that should not be on display.
On top of the glass storage area there was just piles of random food items, trays, and bottles. It honestly looks like a junk/collect all area.
They also had not replaced multiple picture lights over the menus on the wall.
Again, the food was decent but I really hope that management gets things clean and back to how I remember them being...
Read moreI've only been here twice but I love this place. I wish I lived near Westerville so I could go more often (only went because I happened to be in the area both times). The sandwiches and sides are really, really tasty and they actually offer meat-free options which is really appreciated. The service is pretty good usually and I like the decor (themed around Westerville prohibition). I enjoyed reading about the history of prohibition in Westerville on the menus too. The patio is lovely with tons of plants and big umbrellas. Last time I was there I got this watermelon beer that came with a slice of watermelon on the glass which was so fun and refreshing. I had never seen that anywhere. Like I said, I would definitely go more often if it was in my neck of the woods. Maybe some day they'll open another location more centrally located...
