I tried this bakery back in 2023 and ordered a carrot cake (orange frosted with nuts pictured). That one turned out absolutely amazing. The cake itself had a great flavor and the frosting had a subtle sweet, but strong cream cheese flavor. For a carrot cake it was perfect. Since that cake was memorable for everyone, I decided to order another one. When I picked it up on Thursday I noticed it was decorated different, I was a little concerned and asked if it was carrot cake with cream cheese frosting. The lady said yes and I just accepted it. My concern isn’t with the decorating, it’s more so with the frosting. The consistency was oily and tasteless. Best comparison would be to eat a spoonful of crisco. We did have the cake sit out to room temp, it was harder to cut through the cake layers than the frosting. The cake itself was alright, some people said they liked it while others said it could be better. No one however liked the frosting and they scraped it off and threw it out. A couple even asked if someone may have forgotten ingredients for the frosting. Upon calling the bakery and going over the taste and if they changed recipes, it feels like I was given excuses. She mentioned that if it sat out for a certain time the frosting could change flavor. Not sure how accurate that is. Hard for something to lose flavor if there’s no flavor to begin with. I was also asked if the layered frosting tasted the same as the outside and it did. I was told they don’t use traditional American buttercream so it won’t be as sweet. Well, the frosting again had absolutely NO flavor. No extracts of any flavors, sugar, cream cheese, nothing. The call was short but it didn’t take long to feel like I was given excuse after excuse on why it tasted like it did. It’s a shame that this happened and going forward I’ll just use a...
Read moreI got married in June, and one of the things I was adamant I wanted to do right was cake. For years my mom and I have jokingly complained about the weddings which skimp on the dessert, whether that be doing a donut wall, cake pops, or worst of all, no dessert at all! I promised my mom that if I ever got married, I would have cake at my wedding, and it would be good cake. So trust me when I say I took my cake search seriously. I almost passed over Homestead because their prices were a bit outside the range I was aiming for, but their range of unique flavors kept drawing me back and convinced me to at least schedule a tasting. Trina goes above and beyond with her tasting appointments, where sample plates are prepared elegantly while she talks through your vision for what your cake will look like. Not only was the cake delicious and the pictures of her previous work beautiful, but she was SO kind and helpful throughout my whole decision journey. Any time I called she picked up right away and answered all my questions. Even after choosing Homestead, there were times leading up to the wedding where I had questions, and at one point when I needed advice on how to serve the cake (my venue charged a high fee to have their staff cut and serve the cake, so we decided to have a few cousins help us out), she walked me through tips on how to properly cut and serve wedding cake, and even emailed me instructions on the best way to do so! People had warned me that I'd likely have a lot of cake left over because too late in the night people start to ignore the dessert, but man, almost all of it was eaten by the end of the night! I barely even got my own slice! This is all to say, I highly recommend Homestead Kitchen; such a lovely and attentive company, with delicious and...
Read moreHomestead Kitchen is a cheerful bakery in Westland, located off of Wayne Road, north of Warren Road.
It was the first visit for my mom and me and we were impressed with the variety of delicious looking baked goods, including a huge selection of keto products made without sugar.
There were innovative products like cookie tacos. Imagine a cookie with lemon chips filled with lemon curd topped with lemon buttercream and dipped in white chocolate on the bottom.
We did not try any of the keto products but I have recommended this bakery to several of my friends who were interested.
There are nice loose leaf teas available as well as coffee and we could have purchased a couple of hot cider if we wanted to sit down and enjoy our treats. The adjoining room has tables and chairs and looks very cozy and charming.
I understand that there are plans to do Teas in this space in the future. Homestead Kitchen has been open for less than 2 years and they have great ideas and I can't wait to see what...
