Restaurant Review: Happy Lamb Hot Pot – Westminster, CA
I visited Happy Lamb in Westminster with a large group and was really looking forward to trying their Mongolian hot pot. Unfortunately, the experience left a lot to be desired—especially due to the service.
We took up two tables and ordered both the “Best of Both Worlds” option and the Original Marrow and Mushroom broth. The buffet line was well-maintained and had a great selection of ingredients, which I appreciated. The ambiance was clean and nicely designed, setting high expectations for the meal.
Sadly, our server Amy made the entire experience incredibly frustrating. From the start, she rushed us through the ordering process, even after I told her it was my first time there. When I selected a broth and immediately changed my mind—literally one second later—she dismissed me with a flat "no you can’t, sorry." It felt like she was pushing me into options I didn’t want and wasn’t open to letting me change anything.
When I asked if I could mix in tomato broth instead, she made a face and said it “doesn’t sound good.” I told her never mind—I didn’t want it. But she brought it anyway. When I reminded her that I had said no, she just walked away with an attitude and a sharp “OK.”
To make matters worse, when the bill came—about $320 for our group—Amy insisted to my aunt that the tip wasn’t included. My aunt was skeptical, so I checked the receipt myself, and sure enough, gratuity was already added. Pressuring someone to double-tip like that is unacceptable.
Overall, the food was average. The sesame dipping sauce was honestly so bad I couldn’t eat it. And while the buffet was clean, it wasn’t enough to make up for the poor service and attitude we received. Given the high price point and the way we were treated, I wouldn’t recommend Happy Lamb to anyone. There are better hot pot spots out there with far more...
Read moreWe came on a weekend so it was quite busy . We tried the original and the chicken base with sour cabbage broth . Both are delicious! We chose the happy menu- the meat selection is not impressive because the beef Toro is very fatty, but the lamb was OK. Next time we will try the happier menu. The vegetable and seafood selection is very good as well as a couple of their hot dishes. One suggestion I would give is that you make two sauce bars. It often gets very congested on the one end where the sauce bar is at currently- maybe you can make a sauce bar at each end to alleviate some of this congestion. Reaching underneath to get the bowls for the sauce is also a little bit of an inconvenience, especially when the bowls ran low, and you have to reach all the way to the back all the while, trying to avoid touching other people‘s legs. If you could somehow tweak this, it would make the experience less of a hassle. Overall, the food is delicious, I would recommend trying, and I...
Read moreA well-decorated chinese style hot pot restaurant. The vibes were very good there. Broth is incredibly well seasoned, and the portions and quality of their meats are hard to beat. It's probably some of the best meats I've had at a hot pot restaurant. Their AYCE buffet area has tons of options, and everything served hot (like chicken wings and gyoza) were fresh and warm. All of the servers were friendly and helpful. One of our servers, Amy, went above and beyond for us! $34 for the regular AYCE and $39 for the premium AYCE. It is a little bit more expensive than some other places. But, considering how quality the meats, buffet, and service are, I'd say it's worth the extra few dollars. I believe they have a lunch special for $25 AYCE Monday through Thursday 12pm-3pm if you're on a budget. It's easily a 9.5 out of 10...
