One of my favorite thing to yelp for aside from sandwiches and noodles is bakeries and desserts. I love a good dessert and especially a good cake. I love patissieres in general and make it a point to try as many pastry and cake shops as i can.
I think the best fruit cake i have ever tried was Paris Baguette's white cake that's sort of like an angel cake with fresh cream and strawberries. I remember that we had purchased that once for hubby's birthday, many years ago and loved it.
So this year for hubby's very important 45th birthday i wanted to find something reminiscent of that fresh cream cake from Paris Baguette. I wanted something popular, delicious, and well loved. So while searching up and down yelp for a good bakery that makes something amazing i came upon Long Phung.
All the 5 star reviews and amazing looking pictures of this bakery helped me decide that this was it. This was THE perfect cake i was looking for and that not only did it look amazing, but it apparently tastes just as amazing as it looks, if not more.
On the way home to SD from visiting our in-laws i stopped in really quick and picked up the 1/4 sheet for $35. Cash preferred but they will take credit cards as well.
The bakery itself is very small and kind of busy. There's a lot of orchids everywhere and other flowers, and only that one tiny little display with different sizes of the fruit cake portrayed for you to look at. And while they do sell other cakes, i truly believe the star of the show is their fruit cake. I could tell by how busy it was when i walked in, that i had made the right decision.
On the way hope from LA we ended up getting stuck in traffic and our 1 hour and 20 minute drive ended up being 2 hours and 30 minutes instead. We found out later that it was because a small airplane had landed on the freeway and that was what had caused the traffic jams.
I was honestly super worried about the cake and thought that it mad probably melted and was a mess by the time we got home.....But oh my goodness, it had actually traveled really well and made it home in one piece, safe and sound! And although we weren't able to enjoy it within an hour from picking up while it was still fresh and the crunchy layer hadn't softened, we did end up eating it the next day and it was still amazing.
I can honestly see the hype about why everyone raves about this cake and how it tastes so good. It's just like eating a fluffy cloud while floating in the sky. It's light, fluffy, not very sweet, and literally just feels like you're eating fluff. And i'm not talking marshmallow fluff...just imagine grabbing a cloud from the sky and eating it.
Although we live in San Diego and aren't able to come up to LA often, i will definitely make sure that Long Phung is one of regular stops when we are...
Read moreDON'T GET CAKE FROM HERE. Got a spoiled cake and the store refused to believe it.
I got a cake from this store yesterday for my gf's birthday, went directly home after getting the cake. I put it in the fridge and waited till after dinner. After we took it out, we took some cute pictures and started cutting the cake. Nothing wrong with the look of the cake. In fact, it looks nice. However, we started to notice the cake smells and tastes off. Then we instantly all stop eating. We knew it was bad so we put the other half of untouched cake back in the fridge just so that we can use this as a proof that we bought the cake and it was bad. This morning I called them, the lady was like "not possible, all cake same, bring it in". I thought "okay, I have it if you wanna see it". I drove 15 minutes, again, from Tustin to here thinking I'd get a refund or any other sort of replacement, but guess what, the lady walked out and gave out terrible customer service I've ever experienced..lady straight up told me they sell 200 cakes a day, and there's no way the cake could be bad. She didn't even take a look at my leftover cake, and started talking to other customers in store in Vietnamese. I was pissed but I kept it polite, I wasn't trying to ruin their business image in front of other customers, but maybe I should have since they don't even give a shit about me. What am I being nice for??? Should've started talking shit in front of everyone. Basically, I drove here for nothing. If you are just gonna be stubborn and have that attitude, why even tell me to come? I'm not the only person complaining, we have 8 people last night, and we all agreed that it was bad. Instead of trying to resolve this issue, the lady chose to ignore me and treated me like I was tripping. I know for sure I'm not coming back, and I will make sure people around me will never visit this place. I will also do all I can to let people know what kind of risk they are putting themselves in when they come to this store. It's places like this that ruined the image of Asian owned restaurants. Stubborn and rude Asian business owners are the worst... Anybody seeing this, save yourself a headache and go somewhere else, cuz you don't want to deal with them...
I'm an Asian myself and for some reason this triggers me more than it should. I am disappointed in the cake, the customer service, and the representation of our Asian community.. We don't need you here. We need someone who doesn't make spoiled cake and actually care about their customers. I hope your store go out of business, so you can stop selling spoiled cakes and contributing to the stereotypes.
I hereby emphasize all I've stated above was true...
Read moreWe originally thought weâd go the traditional American cake route for our wedding, but honestly, it just wasnât us. So we went back to what we know and love: Asian sponge cakes with fresh fruit and that nostalgic crisp in the middle. From the very beginning, Tina and her team were so accommodating. They even delivered to our venue in Fallbrook outside of their normal delivery times, which we canât thank them enough for.
The taste was exactly what we hoped for: that light, airy sponge that isnât overly sweet, layered with fresh sugared fruit and crunch. All our guests loved it with some who grew up with this style of cake, and others who were trying it for the very first time and couldnât stop raving about it.
But the best part? Their artistry. We gave them an inspiration photo of a classic vintage full sheet cake with lots of piping and the clear red piping for the words, just like our parentsâ wedding cakes from back in the day. They absolutely nailed it. Not only was it delicious, but it was deeply meaningful to see those memories carried forward into our own wedding.
If youâre considering them for your special occasion, do it. Please check out the photos to see exactly...
