My wife and I had probably the most frustrating experience at Maggie's, from start to stop. We arrive and we are sat out on the patio, which was great. Our server, (Devon or something like that), comes over and we order a bottle of Prosecco. He said that his handheld device was only letting him order glasses, but he would go check at the bar. He comes back to our table and takes our order, and starts to walk away. We remind him that we ordered a bottle of Prosecco and he said "oh yeah "she" is locked in her office right now and I don't want to bother her, but when she comes out, I will ask her". My wife looks over at me and says that we will end up with our food before our drinks.
About 5 minutes go by and the server comes back to our table and asks us if we are ready for some appetizers or do we just want to order entrees. We remind the "server" that we already ordered and asked where are drinks were, he said he was going to go check. A few more minutes go by and sure enough, here comes our food. As usual, my wife is right, so we tell the server just bring us glasses of Prosecco, not to worry about the bottle. A few more minutes go by and he brings out a bottle of "Camp Viejo Rose" , drops it in the center of our table, unopened, and walks away. At this point, I am over the whole experience, and take the bottle up to the bar, where I find a bartender and the "manager". I explained that I ordered Prosecco, but since one of them was locked in an office, we had to wait until after our meals came out to get the wrong bottle. The manager tried to explain that this Camp Viejo Rose was the same as Prosecco, because they were both bubbly. I ask the bartender to just give me two glasses of Prosecco, but when she goes to pour them, the keg needed changed. The bartender offered me Angry Orchard, so I said give me two and i will go back to the table. The bartender says that we should just share a glass of Angry Orchard while she changes the Prosecco Keg, I decline. The bartender pours two glasses, hands me one, and hands my server the other and he walks away. I ask them why they handed it to the server and they said he was taking it to my wife.
I walk back to my table and realize that my wife does not have the glass that the server was bringing out. I walk back to the bar and ask the bartender and manager where the second glass went, and they said that the server took it to my table. As it turns out, the server dropped it off at another table. I ask the bartender and manager to please just bring me our check so we can go. I also ask them if they typically open bottles or just drop them off at tables, apparently they typically open them. I also ask if they think the server is inebriated, at least that would be a decent excuse for being incompetent. I walk back to my table and a different server brings my wife a large glass of Angry Orchard, I ask her to please just bring me my check. We never see her again.
The manager then shows up at my table to see how things are going, and I explain they are the same as they were two minutes ago, and to please bring me the check, she walks away, I was assuming to go get the check. We never see her again. Next, the bartender shows up at our table, looking half in the bag in my opinion, and starts to drop a drink off. We tell her we didn't order another drink and shes says "oh yeah, this is Coors Light anyway, you'll have a bubbly vibe", I ask her to bring me my check and she walks away. We never see her again. Now, the original server comes up and asks us if the bottle had been voided from the check, and starts babbling on about how it was his handhelds fault that the he couldn't get the correct bottle, I cut him off mid sentence and tell him to just go get the check. He never comes back to our table. We waited several more minutes and never received a check, so we left. I did notice an empty prescription bottle with the label missing laying in the parking lot, maybe that would explain the...
Read moreWhere shall I begin...My boyfriend and I have been long time customers for at least 2 plus years. We would go maybe once a week or every other week. The reason being is because the food and service was always great. Keyword "WAS" always great. However, the past 9 months have been abhorrent.
The service: The level of service has completely gone down hill. During some of our most recent dining experiences we have encountered a waitress who seriously seemed like she was under the influence of something. We had reserved the table next to the fire place. When we were sat initially, we were the only customers in the dining room. At first she was fine. She brought our drinks and appetizer within a reasonable amount of time. As soon as more tables started being sat...She was all over the place. Clearly she could not handle more than 1-2 tables at a time. At LEAST 20 minutes had gone by and she never came back to take our dinner orders. We ended up having to flag someone down so that we could get our check, leave and go somewhere else.
Most recently, last week, we came in to dine. And it all began to fall apart from there, yet again!!! And let me explain why...
When we were initially sat down the extra dinnerware was not removed from the table.
We were not served any water until we had to ask for it.
Our server was training at the time. He was extremely over the top, almost as if he were in acting class. Basically, he tried TOO HARD. I felt bad for the trainee. She is not going to be successful at this establishment if there are incompetent employees training her.
We ordered Chicken Bites for an appetizer. We could not get past the first bite. I am certain the chicken being used is dark meat (which should be specified on the menu, as most establishments serve white meat). The chicken bites we so bad, and rubbery - we actually noticed some weird chicken parts. We flagged down our server and showed him the chicken bites. Even he was appalled and embarrassed.
And that brings me to the next topic, the main course.
The main course: We had ordered the Imperial Flounder w/ broccoli and mashed potatoes. My boyfriend ordered a Burger w/fries.
a. The fish was so badly burnt, and tasted like it was frozen and reheated. Barely any imperial at all. Mashed potatoes were 100% reheated and almost burnt. The only thing edible on the Flounder plate was the broccoli. b. The Burger came out undercooked. It was ordered Med/Well. Totally came out Med/Rare. We so annoyed at that point - we didn't even bother asking about the burger. We just wanted to get the check and leave. We were DONE. The only thing edible on the burger plate was the fries.
Please have the servers stop standing at the table waiting for folks to pay their checks via the tablet. It makes many customers uneasy and under pressure when servers are hovering over you to pay the bill. Several establishments do NOT encourage their servers to stand there while you pay the bill. It's just not necessary, period!
VERY IMPORTANT: The manager has been the only saving grace that helps make the dining experience better. If it were not for him, we would have waited at least 20 mins for a refill or even be asked if we wanted a refill. Please give the manager a raise. He works hard yet, seems to be a bit stressed.
Bottom line is something changed within the past 9 months. The service and food quality is no longer worth us continuing to be customers. Unfortunately, you have lost 2 customers. We will never come back again unless something drastically changes.
And if management DOES reply. Instead of the basic replies that you're sorry for the bad experience. I'd suggest you actually take the action to make necessary changes so that you don't continue to...
Read moreI am done with Maggie’s, and you should be too.
My wife and I used to love dining at Maggie’s before the change in ownership in 2021. Since that change, not only has the price increased, but the quality of food has greatly diminished. To say that Maggie’s is overpriced would be an understatement.
The last time my wife and I dined-in at Maggie’s, we attempted to order their Brussels Sprouts Appetizer, which in my opinion is really the only good thing on their menu. The server came back to tell us that they were all out of Brussels Sprouts (at 2PM on a Saturday), so instead we ordered their crab dip. When it arrived, they gave us very little bread – in fact there wasn’t enough bread for even half of the dip. When we asked for more, we were told it would be a $4.00 charge for more bread. So not only did we end up paying more than we wanted to for an appetizer, we didn’t even get to finish it.
I don’t remember what we ordered for our meals, but we were not impressed with them and decided it was not worth dining here anymore. But because we love their Brussels Sprouts so much, we have ordered just those to go a few times since.
Today we had a long day full of fall activities with our children (3 and 1), and decided to reward ourselves with an order of Brussels Sprouts to go. After waiting for nearly 25 minutes, I was out the door and back to the van full of screaming children. Excited to finally be heading back home to enjoy our appetizer, we began our 20-minute journey.
We arrived home and opened the container to find 3 pieces of moldy bread. Yes, MOLDY. BREAD. No Brussels Sprouts – someone’s left-over, boxed up bread that was also moldy. My wife immediately called Maggie’s to tell them about their error, and their response speaks volumes of their character. No apology, just a simple, “we have the brussels sprouts here, you can come back and get them or we can refund you.” They did not address their error, nor did they care that their bread is moldy.
Because we live 20 minutes away, my wife told them we will not be returning to the restaurant, and asked them to refund us. My wife was asked for her number and told a manager would call us soon. No one bothered to call, which is no surprise to us.
We could have written a review for Maggie’s many times in the past but decided not to. But time and time again we are met with overpriced, mediocre food and even worse service. And now this time, moldy bread. I can’t help but wonder how many patrons ate moldy bread tonight.
