We went for the first time at about early dinner time. It was very busy but the service was great. The selection of food was good, kind of like a Double T maybe a little less. Pricing was definitely better than Double T. As far as the food itself, my picky teen kids ate their entire orders (steak for one and I forgot the other). I ordered meat loaf (usually dangerous at a new place) which was ok. The side salads included cucumber which i loved and is getting more and more hard to find, but the lettuce was close to the core iceberg chunks(kind of sour). The real standout was the service. The other adult in our group had a 3-year-old who was ever due for a nap and she was really getting kind of crazy so she actually had to leave the diner before we were done eating. Her child's meal as well as one of my kid's meals included a dessert. The other adult had to leave before she was even done eating dinner, So I didn't want to sit there and eat dessert while she was outside. Our server actually made all of our desserts to go, gave a to go refill of her drink for the adult that had to go outside, and even gave us a half of a cup of sundae nuts because I forgot to ask for them on the other adults Sunday. Having only been there once, them having been crazy busy and it not being crazy dinner time yet, I can't say that the food wouldn't have been excellent had these factors not been in play. I know that when a restaurant gets caught by a rush during a normally slow time it can put stress on everyone and that's what it appeared was going on. Like I said though, even with this the service...
Read moreI always hope that things will be different. Every time I visit with my over 80 year old mom and give directions to the kitchen because she has teeth issues, the cook ignores simple requests such as chopping precooked onions or not bringing overcooked potatoes, or making sure it’s crispy bacon. The server writes the request on the order, the cook ignores and the server gets upset because you complain that the food is not prepared the way you ordered it! One visit we were served breakfast gravy and it had soured. We asked for it on the side. Mom had already put a spoonful on her hard potatoes. When we told the server after waiting for ten minutes, she only took mom’s gravy in her bowl, and left without her plate and left me with my bowl of sour gravy and was annoyed that we complained. Either the kitchen staff are worthless or the server doesn’t put special requests in the computer or is just plain lazy! I was born and raised in Carroll County and have always tried to support this diner. When it was family operated it was the best. Now it’s just a mediocre place. Because Westminster has few options short of McDonalds, it’s like they have gotten lazy and don’t care anymore. This has happened every time I have visited in the past 5 years. Now I’m just over it. Such simple requests being ignored. Once again, I will just take mom elsewhere, after all, The Firehouse Grill in Littlestown or Country Kitchen in Taneytown are still far better and worth the small drive.
So sad to see an over 70 year institution get ruined by people who’ve...
Read moreVery disappointed! I have been waiting for an opportunity to go here since I moved here a year ago. It seemed so dingy from the outside that my husband asked if I was sure I wanted to try it. We were met with a smell of spoiled food as we entered the lobby. I had hoped it was because am employee had just emptied the trash just outside the door.
We were seated quickly, however the waistband was less than cordial. No introduction, just "what can I get you to drink?"
There was only 1 choice of soup (the wrong one for me). The menu is not very robust. I ordered a crabcake sandwich with fries. It came slower than my husband's garden salad with sliced chicken cutlet on top and onion rings.
The cucumbers in my husbands salad were nearly spoiled. My crabcake, though sizable, was barely cooked, tasteless, and immediately fell apart.
Staff mopped floors around us, but it was not closing time.
The waitstaff came by and refilled my husbands half finished drink without asking. She never refilled mine or even asked if I wanted it refilled.
Overall, it was really a very disappointing experience. We won't...
