Zero stars tonight!! I have been in this restaurant 5 times and always had an ok meal. Nothing to brag about or tell your friends and neighbors you have to eat at this establishment. My go to restaurant in another town closed when the owner retired so I’m seeking a new weekly Chinese food restaurant. Tonight I have decided never to visit this place again until they advertise that they have a new cook or under new ownership. The egg rolls were so greasy it poured out of them. Old oil has a distinct smell and taste. The orange chicken was so hard I thought it was jerky. The ribs were not cooked or came out of a crockpot not seared in a wok. Worst 60 bucks ever spent. I called them and shared my concern about the lack of consistency . The nice lady offered a refund and I told her it’s not necessary and good luck! I’m out, never again will I take a chance. I challenge them to a cook off and I’m not a pro! Lol

We are new to the area and this restaurant was one of three recommended the try. First impressions was that they were busy both dine in and take out…good sign. We ordered for take out the combination Lo Mein, Moo Goo Gai Pan, Wonton Soup and spicy Shrimp Fried Rice. First, I have to agree with the previous reviewer, the portion does not match the price tag. All dishes had good flavor except the Wonton Soup (different look and taste very bland). The shrimp fried rice was very delicious until you got to the middle of the carton. The taste change as you got midway as it was no longer spicy, the peas were firm and the shrimp lack fried rice taste (fried rice not cook in the batch). We will give it another shot, but dining in for the lunch menu next time. Will keep you posted.

My wife and I are visiting Westminster MD on an extended weekend getaway. This was our second experience at Forbidden City Chinese Restaurant. The staff are very welcoming, professional and attentive; excellent service!! Each time my wife ordered Shrimp and Broccoli - every ingredient was fresh and the shrimp are large. Each time I ordered shrimp egg foo young (Cantonese Style) - that is the twist…. very savory gravy and loaded with vegetables and flavor! Each time I compliment the meal with Asian Plum Wine (very cold) and my wife has a glass of Merlot. HIGHLY recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting Westminster MD.

UPDATED REVIEW- I was a frequent customer at Forbidden City for years- virtually the only Chinese restaurant I ever returned to. However, about 6 months ago, the restaurant got a new head chef and the food has just not been the same. I have ordered many things on the menu- shrimp/pork fried rice, chicken/beef lo mein, egg rolls, mongolian beef, General Tso's chicken- and they all have changed drastically. The fried rice is always soggy (I didn't even know rice could BE soggy!), whenever I order anything with pork or beef I usually send it back or eat what I can and never take the leftovers (and let me just say, I was a server and I don't like to send food back and if I do I am still always polite about it, it has to be reallllllyy bad for me to send back). The pork and beef is usually chewy- I know chinese restaurants never get the best cuts or quality of meats to begin with but the meats have been chewy, fatty, undercooked and limpy- just gross. The chicken dishes are basically the same. I returned about 3 times since the first incident- restaurants have off days- but it has not gotten any better :( This used to be my favorite and best chinese restaurant EVER, and now I am not sure I will return WITH THAT BEING SAID- the front of house staff is great, always very kind, always remembers me and what I like, and for that I have great respect, however I do not think I...

We moved to the area last year, and heard this restaurant recommended the most. We went to try it out and were disappointed in the food we received.

Most surprising was the cashew chicken, which is usually includes small pieces of plain chicken - not breaded - with the cashews and sauce. Instead, the dish they served was soggy, breaded chicken, with overcooked/burnt cashews. If a dish is going to be prepared differently than the norm, I just would have expected them to at least note that on their menu. The Lo Mein was overcooked/mushy and the sauce was really watery. Egg Drop Soup was very, very salty.

I don’t know if we went on an off day or just didn’t order their “best” dishes? But I consider those fairly staple menu items so I would have expected better based on all the recommendations.

Service was fine, it was nice to have an actual restaurant to sit die down for Chinese as those seem fewer these days, but we aren’t likely to return as other restaurants in the area that were rated lower online actually had much...
