With my son and daughter in law's anniversary present, we decided Saltgrass would be where we would celebrate the occasion. We arrived right around 6pm on a Monday night so we expected a wait. The 3 of us walked in right before 3 other families, which all parked and walked in. We put our name first, then each of them. We talked about how busy it was as it was a Monday, before the holiday, then watched one by one as each of the families (4 people in each of them) was seated before us, with the last family mentioning they believe we were there long before them and the hostess, still seated them, and us about five minutes later. Once sat, the one waiter was not only waiting on those other tables, but the couple of 8-10 tops that were on the other side of the restaurant as well as many others, without the slightest glance over to us. Now it is 46 minutes after we've walked in to the restaurant and we hadn't been offered a water. Once he stopped and said he can do a quick drink order, which was the only greeting we got, we ordered our sodas, water and I said we were able to give our dinner order if he was ready and it was almost 20 min since we had sat down and had plenty of time to look. The super busy waiter dropped our drinks off, without straws, and we had no time to stop him to get some. The next time we saw him, to get straws, is when he was dropping of the appetizer that came with salads, soup and immediately before our dinner and bread. Cool, cool, not ideal but at least with a now empty restaurant and food to nosh on, our very uncomfortable evening, just turned a nice corner.
I thought.
They enjoyed their steaks plenty. I was enjoying my dinner when the waiter stopped by asking for dessert. I asked for a dessert menu barked that it was on the table, had we looked. Clearly we were not drinking alcohol, so why would we, but now it went to uncomfortable again and my son asked for the check with a happy belly.
When the check was placed in front of me, the waiter spoke as if it was the first time I had ever paid a restaurant, even explaining how to stand the check book up when ready.
NOW I was embarrassed and ready to go....and never come back. The humility of the entire evening had me blown away but not wanting to complain and ruin the festive event of my sons 16 yr anniversary, but this was a step too much. They made us wait, for everyone else to be seated. Drinks were not brought until our food was brought. No delineation between appetizers, salad and meal, and NOW THIS!
It gets worse.
When I opened the book and saw the QR code, I thought, perfect, I shall pay and leave without any more humility. NOPE. I paid, tipped, STOOD THE BOOK UP as he instructed, then we gathered our coats, hats and gloves, and walked out. There was no one on the floor to say good bye to, or to see us leave, so we continued out the door, the same way we entered. Being ignored. When we hit the parking lot, we were stopped by both the waiter as well as the hostess CHASING US DOWN IN THE PARKING LOT as if we ate and left without paying!!!!!!!!!
HUMILITY TO A NEW HIGH!
I have NEVER experienced such a blatant show of classism. I would say racism, but this goes beyond that! I cannot and will not ever share another dollar of my hard earned money at this location and will have a hard time going to sister restaurant Bubba Gumps, which I live across the street from and frequent often.
RIDICULOUS way to...
Read moreThis was our first Saltgrass experience and it will be our last. When we arrived, there were several parties ahead of us. Two employees sat all of the parties ahead of us and left us waiting at the host station. Finally, one of them returned and apologized for leaving us waiting for so long. After sitting down at our table, we watched the server for our section bring drinks and fresh bread to all of the tables around us. Once he had delivered everyone else's drinks and bread, he stopped to introduce himself and take our drink and soup or salad order. He is super short with us and not friendly at all. About 10 minutes passed and he and another server came out with appetizers and other items for the other tables around us. He stopped by with our drinks last and said there was fresh bread coming for us. For 20 minutes we watched the servers bring bread, soup, salad and more drinks to all the other tables in the restaurant. Now we are 30 minutes in and the tables around us are already finishing their meals. Finally, our server shows up with our soup but no bread. We tell him we would still really like some bread and he says it should be out of the oven now and he will check on it. At this point we have been waiting for almost an hour. Out server returns with our entrees and bread and quickly walks away. The bread we waited so long for should have been fresh and warm....it was cold and dry, very disappointing. We try our steaks and immediately I see mine isn't cooked correctly. I asked for medium and it was rare; very red inside and blood ran across my plate as I cut it. My smoked mac n cheese was so cold, the cheese was solidified at the bottom of the dish. My wife's filet was a little better but was also undercooked. Our server was nowhere to be seen and the restaurant was getting very busy. We became more upset as we waited and another employee saw that we needed help and stopped to check on us. We told her our server hadn't been back to check on us since dropping off our food. She said she would bring my wife a drink refill - she never came back. We were very upset at this point and our server finally showed back up. We asked for the check and as we were filling out the ticket, the other employee who we think was a manager, looked at us with an "oh crap, I forgot their drink refill" and went running to the bar. She showed up with my wife's refill as we were getting up to leave. This was one of the worst food service experiences we've ever had. We could have had two meals at Texas Roadhouse for what this cost and the food and service would have been so much better! We won't make this...
Read moreWas not as we expected service way. We arrived and sat promptly. Waited about 5 minutes for a frazzled waiter. He was rushing us. Did not offer us drinks. Which we did want. He offered beer bread. He made us feel uncomfortable because he would hide by a pos and run over "are you ready" over and over. He finally got us water and bread. There were only two other groups. About 15 in minutes we ordered. We did get the queso and chips within about 10 minutes. By this time, 3 additional tables and We were still waiting for food that was ordered as other tables received their appitizers, starters, and meals 10 minutes ago. Their waiter was much more efficient. 20 minutes we kept looking to see if our food was coming. By now, 4 more tables were sat, and others sat after us were leaving. had their food. We should have been, too. A manager, I assumed, made his way around asking if everything was alright. But he did not give us a chance to answer before he threw a card at my daughter A business person should know to hand the card to a guest, not throw it at a guest. I put my hand out, and he slammed my card on the table. Maybe get your manager some training and customer service skills. As guests, we felt unvalued. The waiter finally brought our food but kept calling my daughters chicken sandwich a hamburger. He kept calling my chicken salad a chicken sandwich over and over. The potatoes were so dry my daughter choked on the potato. I almost did as well but grabbed my water, the only drink I was offered. I had to pull out a water bottle out of my bad to drink as well. I am a Landrys Select member. It was my birthday and this dinner was ruined. My daughter wanted to add on my favorite carrot cake. But again, we were not offered dessert. The waiter littery reached over our table, grabbing our flat wear is such a hastly rude manner it was so offensive he could have slipped as he grabbed the knives. He was quite scary. The bill they took my 25.00 birthday reward off. But charged us the full $71 plus amount. Our bill came down to $40 something dollars. I brought the receipts with me because the bill on here was now showing $60 something, and the waiter said oops we charged you the $71 something." Seems my credit card will be contacting you and charging the correct amount. Thank you for ruining my birthday. Making us feel uncomfortable, unvslued, and over changing us on top of...
