I was in the area for an appointment and happened upon this restaurant on my search for food. I ordered A LOT! I started with the tteokbokki appetizer, (rice and fish cakes in a spicy sauce) and a kimchijeon (kimchi pancake); then got a hot soup called gomtang (beef bone broth with sliced beef); for my main I got sliced pork belly served w/ssam (lettuce, sauce, and banchan)and the soup combo w/Mul Nyaengmyeon (cold noodle soup w/arrowroot noodles) and a half portion of the grilled spicy pork. My favorites were the kimchi pancake, the cold noodle soup, and the spicy pork. All were flavorful, and had the appropriate texture for the particular dish. I enjoyed the porkbelly & ssam, especially the ssamjang and the banchan, but I felt the pork belly was slightly overcooked and the didn't give enough lettuce. The mul nyaenmyeong was good. The gomtang was rich and had decent flavor, but there was too much oil on top. When I've had it in the past, that oil wasn't there, so I know it's possible to serve it without. I did get take out, so I can't speak too much on the atmosphere, but it was clean, and looked nice. The service was on point, especially when someone's halmeoni brought me my food out because I had my son sleeping in the car. I really appreciated that! I'd definitely go back to do the bbq, and taste more of the...
Read moreI visited during lunch time with a party of four. The food was good as usual but I'm not sure why both servers seemed disinterested in attending to patrons. The male server was constantly playing on his phone at a table near the back, though the female server was seated by the utensils and mostly zoning off into the distance. We asked our male server to replenish our small dish appetizers (the ones with pickled and spicy variety of vegetables) and he was incredibly reluctant to do so. That has never happened before. When one of our older friends had a question about the menu, he was short tempered and snappy. I truly don't think he should be in the serving business because that is really unattractive to customers and he gives Myung Ga a bad reputation. If I didn't like this restaurant already, I'd probably give 1 star. If it weren't for the poor service, I'd have given 5 stars. But really guys, please vet your servers before employing them. I know restaurant work is tiring but at least keep up a smile and a good attitude for...
Read moreHave been going here for decades thru many ownership changes. The current owners hands down have the best Korean food I have had in a very long time!
The KFC or Korean fried chicken here is incredible. Super crispy on the outside with a tender delicate inside. Not even the dedicated KFC places like Choong-man chicken are this good!
The haemul-paejun (seafood pancake) was amazing and it comes in small appetizer or large sizes. The seafood is all encapsulated in between the layers and is plentiful.
The kimchi-paejun likewise is excellent because their homemade kimchi is awesome - definitely addictive territory.
The kimchi-beef tofu soup is amazing especially if you get it very spicy (they do give you the look to see if you can handle it!!) - it is indeed very spicy so be prepared!!
Have a glass of shoju fresh original handy to wash...
