Kinda late on this review as this happened a while ago, but was going through my reviews and realized I never left a review for this place like I was going to. So as I said, a while ago, me, my best friend and her boyfriend stopped in here before we went to a friend's get together/party. Me and my best friend had pizza prior so we mainly stopped here for her boyfriend to get something to eat as he had been wanting to try this place for a while. He ended up ordering something with crab (upon looking at their menu I believe it was the loaded crab rangoon fries). The people were nice, he got his food and it looked really good, he ate it, he liked it and we were on our merry way to the party. We were probably there for about an hour or so and he started to not feel good. He was slouched on the couch holding his stomach. I had gotten him water and we tried to see if it would pass and discuss what we think could be the cause. We were worried about him so we decided to leave the party and bring him home. While on our way, we had to pull over to the side of the road where we sat for almost 2 hours because he couldn't stop puking and was feeling very sick (obviously). We debated bringing him to the hospital as we weren't sure if he had gotten food poisoning, but eventually, upon discussing with him we decided to rush him home. When we got to his house, he proceeded to puke up even more in his drive way, and it was at that point we figured he had gotten some kind of food poisoning. He hadn't really eaten anything before this that could give him food poisoning, especially since his lunch was earlier in the day, so its safe for me to assume that the crab rangoon fries may have been the culprit here. After puking his entire insides out practically, he said he felt a bit better, took a shower, and laid down for the rest of the night probably traumatized and embarrassed. I am not trying to hate on this restaurant or anything. I am sure that they have good food otherwise as they seem to have great reviews, but can say that we unfortunately will not be returning to this place. I'm not sure if maybe the crab just wasn't as fresh as they thought or what, but just be careful when ordering anything...
Read moreI went on opening day and it definitely lives up to the hype. I was a fan of the original Callahans and I’m still a fan of what they have evolved into. The hotdog isn’t the old Callahan’s recipe, but it is a newer and better one in my opinion. These new hotdogs are much bigger than they used to be so you’re definitely getting your money’s worth.
The hotdogs come in a choice of beef or pork & beef blend. There’s also the option to get it grilled or deep fried. They also come in some special creations. If special creations aren’t your thing, you have the option to get it customized to your taste. You can get it plain or dressed with toppings to your liking.
I got the candied bacon peanut butter hotdog and the k-top hotdog. The candied bacon peanut butter is a creation from the old Norwood location and it’s the one I’ve been waiting to have again. The k-top hotdog is a Korean style hotdog with fried cheese, sugared potatoes, and honey mustard drizzle. Both hotdogs were good as expected if not better.
1950’s original isn’t the old Callahan’s but instead a much newer and better experience. The style of the restaurant is very sleek and minimalistic. It has somewhat of a 2-dimensional aesthetic. It’s a refreshing new look. The hospitality is also amazing. They are there to help if you have any questions and make sure you have everything you need.
This isn’t much of a dine in restaurant as it is much of fast casual like many of today’s popular restaurants. There is a few bench seating by the window if you choose to sit and eat. There is convenient parking all around if you intend to pick it up and go. They also have digital kiosks so you can fully customize your order to you need. It gives you the ability to change, edit or add any items. I like the idea of fast casual as I can take my food to go and enjoy eating and walking around the beautiful town of Westwood.
All in all this is a new idea and new experience and can’t be compared to the old Callahan’s, it’s newer and better. This ain’t your grandfathers hotdogs anymore. Times have changed and it’s safe to say that they...
Read moreBasic burger and fries joint in a tiny old diner that’s been updated with a kid-friendly menu. Food was good and I think there’s potential and some room for improvement
I got a single cheeseburger with fries and a soda. The menu is very limited: burgers, fries, hot dogs and soft drinks. That’s pretty much it. I thought the fries were excellent - great flavor, crispy, perfectly cooked. I wish the portion size was bigger, or maybe if they had multiple size options?
The burger was good but small; I’d get a double next time but in general it’s definitely smaller than Five Guys, Smashburger, Wendy’s, etc. I also wish they had more options to customize it, like lettuce, tomato, bacon, fried onions, whatever. Currently you can only modify it by adding more sauce or more raw onions. That said, it was good
By contrast, the hot dog is very big and cooked nicely with loads of toppings. They had a bunch of specialty dogs on the menu too with toppings all over the spectrum: peanut butter, potato sticks, candied bacon, etc
the bottled sodas at $3.25-$3.50 were a bit overpriced
The guy who works there is super friendly and eager to walk you through the menu and how items are cooked and how to order on their tablets. There’s no parking lot, just street parking which is metered Monday-Saturday during certain times. Not many tables inside but there is outdoor seating on...
