A few years ago I worked at a State agency not far from here and would order a New York style pizza which was very tasty. Tonight I ordered one and it was nowhere near as good as they used to be. I found service to be absolutely terrible as well. Our waitress by name of Matilda does not seem to understand her role very well. We asked her to have the bartender make a drink with schnapps orange juice and cranberry juice and she did not even understand that schnapps was an alcohol. Finally the bartender came out and told us that they don't have schnapps. So we ordered and amaretto on the rocks and I suspect that this is not a top-shelf amaretto cuz it's not very tasty. Finally Matilda comes back and tells me that they don't have any Stella Artois we are even though it's on the menu. So far I'm not too impressed by this restaurant. Finally the pizza comes out and the waitress said oh I'll have to go get some plates and she disappears and I wait and I wait and I wait and I wait and I'll wait while my pizza is getting cold and I finally look at her and say what about our plates and oh oh oh I forgot those I'll go get them right now. Matilda also failed to provide us with a spatula to take the pizza and put it on our plates. I'm not impressed at all and this will be the last time I come into this restaurant. There is too much competition for them to have terrible service like this and food that's not very tasty and alcohol that they don't have on the bar. And the restaurant was not very busy, so they can't use...

What happened to this restaurant? The food and service used to be very good. Went there on a Sunday evening at 6PM expecting to wait for a table. No crowd, no hostess at the door except, a waitress who shouted across the room, to "seat yourselves" in the dining room. No crowd, only two other tables occupied, A few years ago, the place would have been packed! Men's room was dirty. Ordered and the food came out all at once, salads, sides and entrees. When there was no more room on the table, the waitress handed us our dinners plates, in-hand and walked away, never taking away empty glasses or bread plates. We were left to clear our own table to make room the dinners we held in our free hands. When asked to refill the grated cheese container, the waitress returned with a full jar and said "can you give me the empty one"? She had two free hands and it was right in front of her. The chicken marsala was tough and difficult to cut with a knife, was drenched with canned gravy. Two other diners who were with me ordered a veal dish. The veal was dry and curled up around the edges. I sent the chicken marsala back complaining that it was overcooked and ordered a ham grinder instead. No mayo, no oil and vinegar, dry as can be. There was only one piece of roasted pepper and the grinder roll was dry. This place used to be so good. Such a shame. We waisted our $ and time thinking we would have a good meal. WE WILL NOT RETURN TO ANY VITO'S RESTAURANT AS THIS IS HOW THE NEWINGTON LOCATION BECAME BEFORE IT...

Me and my husband came to Connecticut for the '90s Con and we got a little hungry so we looked up some restaurants and we found Vito's so we left the hotel and went there. The service was wonderful from the moment we walked in but let's get to the food. They said fried mozzarella with sauce. I was very skeptical but the waiter informed me that they make it fresh in house It was just mozzarella sticks but made in house and a marinara sauce on the side. I got the fettuccine alfredo With prosciutto My husband got the chicken parm with shells and I got to drink Berry bubbles. Now during the last few years it's been very difficult for people to stay afloat financially and health-wise. This food was horrifying. I also had the chicken orzo soup. It wasn't bad but not that great. The fettuccine alfredo was like Jared sauce which they sell if you're going to spend money, pay for gas go out for dinner I highly recommend. Don't waste your time. It's not worth all the hassle. My husband ate all his food but he wasn't impressed either I heard the pizza's good. But we didn't get it I hope this review helps somebody not to waste their time and money by the way, I didn't want to complain at the restaurant. I'm only writing this review for people to know it's...

Edited: We’ve tried to order 3 out of the last 4 nights - they now force you to order online, except the online platform simply doesn’t work on an iPhone, desktop or android device. I thought this was one of the last old school restaurants with a true family feel - now it seems like they don’t want to be inconvenienced with speaking to customers. I took a risk and tried a stuffed meat pizza - I made the right choice! Sausage, pepperoni, meatball all stuffed between two layers of dough is asking for an oily, soggy mess! Not this pizza, the top was cooked perfect, bottom was crispy and chewy! My wife had a small margarita pizza and she said it was the best she's had in any of the pizza joints in Wethersfield. Admittedly, when we ordered, I thought the price of a small stuffed pizza was a little high, but, after getting it home I can attest that a small stuffed pizza will be good for atleast 3 meals and definitely worth the money!

First time ever eating at Vito's. We started with fried calamari and fried mozzarella sticks. Calimarin was way over cooked and the mozzarella sticks were very greasy. I ordered the Shrimp Putenesca and she ordered penne pasta with pesto and grilled chicken. The Putenesca was full of large chopped veggies including huge chunks of garlic, canned cherry peppers, red onion and bland tomato with the skins on. There were still stems on a pepper and a large green stem from something. Overall it was nothing like a normal Putenesca and not in a good way. My wife's pasta had maybe 6 bite size pieces of chicken and there was so much pesto it was swimming in oil. The only good part of the meal was the Sam Adams beer.

I used to work just down the street from Vito's, and it was where I brought close friends or family when I met them for lunch. Always a good meal! Service is pretty good - I've rarely had a bad experience here, and there has never been an overly long wait either. Pizza is amazing for take out or eat in, but be sure to try everything they have. The eggplant fries are something we get every time we go. We went on Valentine's day and it was busy but not crowded. A couple next to us was kind enough to buy us a cannoli (!) and it was downright amazing. I compared it to Mike's in Boston, if you need a reference point. Highly recommended! Definitely give Vito's a try. I haven't been to any of their other locations, though.
