My mother and I stopped by Ivy after a shopping trip to Wheaton, and we were so glad we did! This was our first time really exploring Wheaton’s restaurant scene, and Ivy made it unforgettable. The ambience alone is worth the visit—set in an old funerary chapel, the restaurant has a cozy yet striking feel, with beautiful stained glass at the back that makes it even more inviting.
We each started with a drink—I went with a whiskey sour, while my mom enjoyed a glass of Château Le Freynelle Bordeaux Blanc. Both were excellent and set a perfect tone for the meal. Our waiter was attentive and helpful, making sure we were all set for each course.
For an appetizer, we ordered the Almond Encrusted Brie, and it was fabulous. On a chilly day, the warm brie with crusty toast points was exactly what we needed. It came with a nice serving of mixed greens and a berry jam that was just the right balance of sweet and tart—a delicious way to start.
For our main courses, my mom chose the Butternut Squash Ravioli, and I went with the 8 oz. Center-Cut Filet. My mom loved her ravioli, especially with the blue cheese topping, which wasn’t heavy but brought out the fall flavors beautifully. My steak, topped with blue cheese as well, was cooked to a perfect medium-rare. It came with a hearty baked potato and asparagus, exactly what I wanted on a brisk day.
We finished with the Flourless Chocolate Cake and Vanilla Bean Gelato—both absolutely delicious! The cake was moist, not overly sweet, and paired perfectly with the creamy vanilla bean gelato. I’m a big dessert fan, and this definitely met my standards.
Overall, Ivy is a gem! The service was excellent, the food memorable, and the atmosphere fun and unique. Highly recommend to anyone...
Read moreWe were excited to try the Ivy restaurant in downtown Wheaton last night. The beauty of the old church-turned-eatery is almost breathtaking with stunning architectural detail. We sat down and immediately enjoyed menus that light up from behind the page! Our meal started out really well with a Solemn Oath craft beer and a Sonoma cab, hot French bread right out of the oven served with honey infused butter. It was very delicious. Then a wedge salad and a bowl of homemade chicken noodle soup. Both were very impressive. My wife ordered the Cajun Chicken Penne pasta entree and I tried the Truffle Burger. The pasta was almost too hot to eat with way too much cayenne pepper. This is a big mistake with inexperienced chefs. I ordered my burger medium rare, which means bloody. It arrived “medium” (see pictures), which was disappointing. The burger was also dwarfed by the large bun, which was flavorful but too much bread for the small size of the burger. Over cooking meat is also a sign of an inexperienced chef. We rarely send food back and we enjoyed our meal and conversation without sending anything back. We even split the flourless chocolate cake, which was sublime. Our server Katrina was thoughtful and friendly and it’s never the server’s fault when the chef makes mistakes, so we tipped generously and left. The vibe at the Ivy is well worth trying and you may get a better chef than we had. We’ll probably try it again someday but not before trying other...
Read moreI’d only walked past this spot and just saw it was a restaurant. When we walked in, we were blown away! I had no idea Ivy was once a catholic funeral home. The architecture is astounding and it truly is a beautiful space! Our service was top notch, which was a very pleasant surprise as it seems the service industry has taken a rather sharp decline post pandemic (PAY THEM MORE THAN $2.00 hr!) our server/waitress was very informative and pleasant, the food runners were polite and courteous and that really helps elevate an experience and our dinner last night was exactly that. An experience! My girlfriend and I started out with the garlic shrimp skewers. These were absolutely delicious! The shrimp were cooked to perfection and the garlic butter or however the chef prepared them was astoundingly good! For our dinners; she had the lamb chops, which were… Next level. I’ve never tasted lamb that juicy and delicious! I had the pork porterhouse with the peach chutney and my ONLY grievance was I felt the chutney was missing some heat. Just a little bit spicy next time, and it’s on me to ask so no fault really. We were tempted with dessert, all of which seemed to be beyond decadent, but passed. That’s not to say I won’t order their espresso panna cotta for myself some other time. I finished the meal with a cup of coffee and settled the bill. My girlfriend and I felt last night wasn’t just dinner, but an experience. An experience we’ll definitely try again!...
