Super cool, chill place. I unfortunately couldn't test out many items due to the milk options but I tried an espresso and a hot coffee. The espresso was to bold for me and I am an espresso lover. But this is high quality espresso! Rich carmel-ly, strong, bold, smooth and slightly smokey flavor. If you enjoy a strong bold coffee you will probably love this espresso, it is an experience! The coffee was also pretty bold. It was a smooth low acidity rich flavor coffee, once again not my choice in daily coffee but I did drink most of it. The quality is something you can't find in many places! As a barista at a competitor I was overjoyed with the passion for coffee you can see here. It reminded me why I chose to take my current job. After many years of working with coffee I wanted to feel that love of coffee again, it fell flat at my current job, but River City Roasters reminded me of my love for coffee. They are truly a one of a kind place. Great staff, great coffee, awesome chill vibe and cool atmosphere. What more could you want?! This is definitely not the run in and out type of coffee place as care is put into each handcrafted drink, but if you are in it just for a brewed coffee it would be a quick in and out (if parking and...
Read moreBased on the other reviews when I needed a local coffee shop to meet up with a friend, I told her to meet me here. The weather was chilly, so I understand they didn't have outside seating outside the coffee shop but down the block there was seating available. The menu had a nice variety of choices of drinks, and there were a few bakery options left by the time we got there. I ordered a basic latte, and it tasted really good. I don't drink coffee all the time, but sometimes when I have strong coffee, I don't like the acidic after taste, but this was smooth. Even though the store is in a small space, it was neat to check out the roaster machine they have on display. Everyone was friendly and able to help us decide what order we wanted. I could totally see this as the perfect local hangout. I love supporting small businesses so next time I am in downtown Wheaton I am grabbing my coffee from this place. PS - You do have to access the door...
Read moreThis place is super special to me.
I used to go here at least once a week while I went to Wheaton College. Their bag of beans + free cup of drip helped me survive college. Back then they were called River City Roasters, then rebranded, and once the pandemic hit they moved to the alleyway.
Their coffee never got worse even through all the transitions. I canât imagine how hard it mustâve been as a small business during the pandemic.
Itâs been over 2 years since Iâve visited, but I was in town for a conference last week so I had to stop by for a bag + drip. This place is amazing. I live in LA & Iâve yet to find someplace better. The quality of coffee only improved even through the pandemic.
Call me biased, but Iâm so proud to call this place my favorite coffee shop!! Must-try. Shop local. Currently writing this as Iâm drinking their...
