If I could give this restaurant a 0 Star review I would. This restaurant has been highly recommended to me by several people online and in person so my significant other and I finally decided to give it a shot. Arriving at the establishment a little after 13:30 we noticed it wasn't busy and we were greeted at the door and seated immediately. However that was the highlight to our visit. We had Nevi as our waitress and she was not very attentive to our needs which weren't many asking a few simple questions about the menu which she didn't know anything about and asking for a soda refill that was never provided. Once she brought us our food which was quite quickly I may add she never once came to ask if we needed anything else or if everything was okay. If she had I would have told her both of our chicken were undercooked and that we needed it cooked longer or something done because you CANNOT eat raw undercooked chicken. She then without asking at 14:08 promptly dropped the tab on the table while we were still eating telling us to pay at the door when we were done handing us a box for our food making us feel like they were kicking us out and the restaurant didn't even close until 15:00. Upon reviewing the receipt I noticed a fee added on that was titled CC and was confused because there was no indication as to what that meant. When we approached the counter to pay we were asked how our visit was and I said it was horrible the blonde lady ringing us out said sorry in a condescending tone and proceeded to ring us out without asking for any further information or to even provided us with someone willing to take two seconds to listen to our issues which is what prompted this review. I then followed up with the question of what is the CC fee and she's like well we assumed you are paying with a credit card so we are charging you a fee to which I followed up with saying so you assumed and she said yes. I told her we are paying cash and she said okay and then we had to go back and forth with her about how she needs to remove the credit card fee if we are paying in cash and she didn't want to. After getting the CC fee removed and finishing paying we asked for our receipt which she already crumpled up and threw in garbage with food. When asked for it she pulled it out of the garbage and said I didn't know you wanted this we said you didn't ask you assumed again. She refused to print a new receipt out and handed us the dirty crumpled up one and wished us a great day. I wished this establishment was a better experience however it wasn't and we will never return again and we have warned several friends and family to...
Read moreI must preface this, with the fact that this experience was a couple of months ago, (March or April). I usually don't write reviews like this, but this was so bad and I honestly hope that they changed.
I had the WORST, DISGUSTING experience at this restaurant. This was my first time dining here. I went with my husband and toddler and a friend and her toddler. I ordered a latte with almond milk. When the waitress brought out our drinks, she began taking our order. Once I was a few sips in, she looked back and me and said "Wait didn't you order the latte with almond milk? I said yes and she said sorry that's not almond milk". (milk upsets my stomach). She said she'll bring me the new one. I handed my husband the one that had milk and the waitress said she had to take this latte back and throw it away or else they would have to charge me for it. She said it was the restaurant's policy. We gave her the latte and she threw it out.
When the food arrived my husband's side toast had VISIBLE GREEN FUZZY MOLD on it! He was about to take a bite and I yelled to stop since I could see it across the booth. After seeing this, we were soooo disgusted with the food. If food came out of the kitchen in this state and onto our plate like that, what is the state of the kitchen? How is food being stored?
We waved over the waitress and told her to please look at this, theres mold on it! She grabbed the plate and proceeded to look at the moldy green bread as if squinting, as if almost going to deny that it's mold. This was so bad that even she said "okay, i'll bring you a new one". We were so disgusted by then, that we honestly wanted to get up and leave all the food.
She never went to inform the manager about this occurrence, which we knew the manager was there because he was in the cash register. Needless to say we will NEVERRRRRR be going back to this restaurant.
I would like to give the restaurant the benefit of the doubt, but please anyone reading this, if you experience anything similar at this rate, call the health...
Read moreWe found ourselves hungry in Arlington Heights. Southern Kitchen was close by and had pictures of food we love on their Maps listing. The parking lot was full at 11AM on a Tuesday, which is always a good sign for a brunch type restaurant. The atmosphere is Country Chic and the décor set the tone for a well rounded Country breakfast. The coffee passes the test, with a rich bold cup that is not muddy and easy to drink when you need that morning cup. I went with a 'Biscuits' dish and got the Stacked Biscuit with Country Fried Chicken. The Gravy was perfectly creamy and peppery. The biscuits were exactly right for a Biscuits and gravy dish. Somehow crispy on the outside and divinely moist on the inside. They held together in the gravy to stay in big pieces on the fork. Country Fried Chicken is paramount for a restaurant claiming to serve 'Country' food and it did not disappoint. Th batter stayed crispy under the gravy and even held up well the 2nd day (the portions are enormous). The scrambled eggs are layered between the chicken and gravy. It was strange to see but added the right breakfasty layer to the dish. The housemade hot sauces are tasty and put a good zing on each bite. My wife went 'Lunchtime' and ordered the Gumbo-Laya. She claims it is the best gumbo she has had outside of New Orleans. I dipped my fork in a few times and have to concur. The flavors explode in your mouth and you get a satisfying Cajun burn with the spices. Very impressive from a restaurant located in The North. Portions are huge all around and it was just as good the next day. We both agreed we need to come back and try the Shrimp & Grits. If these 2 Southern Staples were this good, the Shrimp & Grits will not disappoint. We saw another table order from the 'Skillets' and they were served in cool looking stainless individual casserole dishes. This place checks as lot of boxes for Southern Brunch. The prices seem high looking at the menu, but the portions are gigantic and you are really buying tomorrow's breakfast too. We...
