Went here on a whim. I learned a valuable lesson about local restaurants who's marquee reads "Cooks Wanted" and their parking lot is packed with a nearly empty restaurant because the place next door is doing good business. The food was adequate in taste only. The service was okay but, wouldn't hold up to a rush. If you expect this place to be exceptional, you're going to have to reevaluate your expectations. Are the plates large? Yes. Are the portions? No. They don't stack your plate with fries. They spread the fries out. My ribeye dinner came with two plates. One had a small portion of vegetables in a little side dish that would be suitable for a serving of sour cream or olive oil. 80% empty. The dishwasher must be pulling double duty for no reason. It was a condiment dish at best with a saucer underneath in the middle of a large plate. The tiny 5-oz "ribeye steak" and mashed potatoes were about the size and quality one would expect from a TV dinner and the waitress didn't even bring out the cornbread I had ordered. The plate was 60% empty. This place isn't worth the hassle to me. Maybe some locals love it and get the royal treatment but, I'm not sticking around long enough or coming back to figure out where the quality of this place is hiding. It isn't in the service, the management, or the food as far as I'm concerned. Order a burger. They might make an okay one. My guest thought it was "better than a McDonald's quarter pounder". Or better yet, go to Roosters next door. If you're disappointed about anything there it will likely be the wait because they are at least busy. EDIT Oh, and another thing. The manager waddled out ofbthe kitchen area with this fake perma-smile on her face breezing through where the three tables of customers were asking leading questions like "How are we enjoying everything?" When I went to respond maintaining full eye contact, she kept on walking. I could sense that her "concerns" were not that and she was just keeping up appearances with feigned sincerity. Then, after the waitress dropped our checks in the middle of the meal she completely checked out herself to have a cigarette break and ignored my wave and exclaimed "excuse me" as I gave a thought toward dessert. Probably for the best. It looked like prefabricated pies you could get from GFS. The whole vibe turned me off to giving a second thought toward the place. With all of the recent 1-Star reviews, perhaps the management should give another look to how they have been doing things for 48 years rather than putting the onus on the customers who seem to be pretty spot on with their...
Read moreIts hard to see a place that you used to enjoy years ago, turn into a place that should just close its doors . We walked into a completely empty restaurant (should have been a warning sign). My Wife and I were seated and given menus. There seemed to be a total of 2 people working in the whole place, including the kitchen. We ordered drinks and food from the menu.
I had an iced tea and my wife ordered a water and a chocolate milk. After 10 minutes she returned (remember we were originally the only people in the place). My wife's chocolate milk was filled to just over the halfway point and the server tells us that that all the milk including the non chocolate in the place. My wife's order arrives, a stack of pancakes-No syrup, 3 strips of bacon shriveled to the length of about 3 and a half inches each, and the saddest plate of "homefry"potatoes. The portion could fit into my palm, 2 paper thin slices deep.. they looked hours old and were stale and greasy. I ordered the chipped beef, a staple on their menu since I was 10, and im 45 now. It arrived and something seemed wrong.. I had also ordered grits that were missing, but after waiting 15 more minutes, i just cancelled in frustration.. so we are sitting there.. trying to get the waitress's attention, (now there were 4 or 5 groups in the place) to get my wife some syrup..for her now cold pancakes. Finally she just got up and spoke to the other woman to get syrup. so she just wanted to try and eat. I looked at my order and notice it was missing home fries. Something they have had on their menu for over 20 years and they forgot an ingredient. I told my waitress.. and she looked at me and said so..u want potatoes? OMG. Another 10 min and they brought out an even smaller, browner, dried up plate of what may have been fries, with black spots, not from frying. I was at my limit.
I was like just give me a box.. She brought one over and i put the slop in it. I also made sure to put salt and syrup on the homefries my wife ordered.. because it felt like we were served someone elses old potatoes.. and I didnt want it to happen again. This places is disgusting and sad and needs to close.
When I went to pay they tried to charge me 2.59 for the half glass of milk... she had to ask the other lady what to do.. and they lowered it to 1.99.. i will never go back to this establishment.. So very sad, Its like watching your favorite pet get old, senile and incontinent.. At some point it needs to be put down.. dont eat here.. eat anywhere...
Read moreThis is my second time going to this tee-jays. The first time was perhaps the worst dinning experience of my life, but everyone told me this was a nice restaurant, so I thought I'd reserve judgement, and try it again. In my honest opinion, if you go here and see a blonde server named Tina approach you, you should turn arround and leave. She does not deserve to be employed. The first time, we ordered 2 ojs, she gave my boyfriend his, and said she would bring me mine soon, we placed our food order, and we saw it come up to the pass in arround 20 mins, and than saw it sit, and sit, and sit. It took over an hour for us to get her attention, and ask to check on the status of our meals, she went up and grabbed them, and brought them over. We than had to ask again for my oj for her to bring it. To make matters worse, the full order of food was not ready, she said she'd get it to us as soon as possible. By the time we finished eating, it still wasn't done, we said we were ready to leave, and asked for that portion to be taken off our bill, because it was not received. She said she could not do that, but removed one oj from the bill. Today when we went in, she sat us again, and this time brought us our drinks. However my boyfriend tried to order a dish and she corrected what he was saying multiple times, even though we pointed out exactly what he wanted. She brought the incorrect meal out. In addition, I ordered sunny side up eggs, and when they came out, the white portion of the egg was not cooked, I asked for it to be cooked a little more, and she said I didn't understand how to order eggs, and than said shed have them cook them more. We waited 15 mins for the meal to come back out, and they had not been cooked anymore, she just had them put gravy on top of them. But you could still see raw egg white on my plate. The egg yolk should be runny, but not cooking the egg white is not appropriate. I truly don't belive anyone should patronize...
