I saw all the nice review of this place, and decided to give it a try. I ordered pull pork Cali, Korean Fried chicken, Buffalo chicken, Kong Pao Cow. Pull pork was the only one that was decent. The proportion of meat and toppings are right, the meat was 3.5 out of 5, nothing more or less than what you would expect from a pull pork sandwich. Once we get into the Korean Fried Chicken, it was pretty bad, the Korean fired chicken does not taste like a real deal, it was a rather very bad attempt at the real Korean fried chicken. Outside was crunchy, but the sauce was wrong, and the meat was not juicy, it was definitely over fried. And for Korean Fried chicken the meat are supposed to be marinated first, I did not taste any drop of marinate, the flavor came from the sauce, which is fine if you call it a “American fried chicken with sauce taco”, but when you put Korean Fried Chicken as the name of the taco, I am expecting a well marinated, perfectly fried “Korean Fried chicken”.
Moving along to the Kong Pao Cow, I mean, come on, the steak was chewy, and tough, and there was not even a slightest resemblance to what a Kong Pao sauce should taste like. Kong Pao originated from China, the flavor type is what called “little lychee flavor”, means little sweet, little sour, and little heat, all three types of flavor compliment each other and that is what make a sauce Kong Pao sauce. Also, where are the peanuts and leek? You will not find any Kong Pao dishes in China without peanuts or leek. If you don’t want to put leek inside your taco, you can infuse leeks flavor into the oil and use that to cook your protein.
The Buffalo Chicken taco is easy, from this restaurant, drive 4 mins down the road, you will find a hooters and Walmart, get yourself an order of hooters Buffalo wings and grab yourself a packet of tortilla from Walmart. Put two and two together, and splash some mayonnaise on top, you just made yourself the exact Buffalo Chicken taco you would get from here.
All in all, I can see they are trying to do an Asian-Mexican fusion taco, but the products scream confusion. Not a single taco tastes like a taco. I am certain you will not find Mexican or Asian in this restaurant and that should be alarming as it is an Asian-Mexican Fusion place.
The 2 stars are for the service was fast and the restaurant is clean. And half star for...
Read moreI am reviewing Taco Darlin's recent venture into bbq on Mondays. To me, 5 stars means absolute perfection and I rarely give that because there is nearly always room for improvement. But this was very close. If I could have given 4-1/2 stars, I would have.
This is our second week in a row that we picked up bbq here. It was so good the first time, we wanted to try some of their other bbq offerings. The first time, we had brisket and bologna. The bologna was very good and the brisket was excellent! This week we wanted to get some of the same, but they didn't have the bologna. So, we got brisket, ribs, pulled pork, and turkey. Once again, showing consistency, the brisket was excellent. The pulled pork, with which I'm sure everyone is familiar, is as good as any I've had. My wife really liked the turkey, but I found it a bit dry (not unusual, I find it difficult to smoke turkey breast and keep it moist), but the flavor was very good. The ribs were almost perfect. I am nitpicking here, but I thought they were ever so slightly underdone, meaning they had a little tug to pull the meat off the bone. Don't get me wrong, I will order them every time I come. They were that good. I think everyone should try this. I believe you will...

Ordered two different chicken tacos. The Korean taco sauce did not taste like Korean flavors at all and the Buffalo chicken had what felt like old warm cabbage (not fresh and crispy like you’d expect). The chicken was both overcooked/dry and tasted/felt like it was cooked an hour or more ago. I’m a clean your plate kind of guy and I couldn’t do it.
I also asked about the salads.. the bartender told me they are HUGE and asked if I wanted a side instead (helped me flip the menu over and showed me the list).. I paused and looked it over.. since all the sides on the menu looked like different forms of fries, I resigned to the regular menu salad. It wasn’t until she brought out that salad (yes it was in fact massive) she casually mentioned that they do have a side salad sometimes but it’s not on the menu. Wtf. Would have been nice to know before I ordered the huge one and you know I was looking for a smaller salad. 😂
I was given a free taco coupon for my feedback when I paid (very nice gesture) but I don’t think I’ll be back any time soon. Sadly...
