I have ordered this same thing for a very long time, years actually, from this restaurant but at the other location on Central, and never once have I had it served to me looking like it did today. I don't know what the red, gel lumps were surrounding the chile rellano but I instantly had a visual of being on the news for being served some form of human bodily fluid that I'd find out about in the coming days after getting a call from my local health department. I'm sure you can picture it so I'm not going any further than that with the description but to say this was a disappointment is an understatement. I wish there was a zero stars option for this one! I typically don't like to write a negative review but I was shocked and confused so it was necessary.
Mind you this was a $8.99 plate that literally went directly into the trash. Food isn't supposed to have gel balls in it, unless maybe it's jello. And since the whole ticket was $30, I was thankful my children ordered the burrito because they instantly started saying things like, Are you sure the cook didn't chop off his finger when he made your food, Mom? Great, thanks kids, that makes me feel even better about the three bites I already ate. 🤦🏼♀️ Then they also were reluctant to finish their food.
The lesson here: I should've just went to the store and cooked dinner tonight. At least then I know what is on my plate. Who has this kind of money to waste right now? I don't and sure don't want anything else from the kitchen at this place. Just make sure you're okay with weird looking food and you'll be fine eating here. It was probably just the way they make their red sauce but it still isn't visually pleasing to find this buried under the lettuce and rice. If you have any issues with visual presentation of your food, then you probably should avoid...
Read moreIf I could give a 0 or below, I would. A friend & I tried Rene's for the first time. And it will be our last! I strongly suggest going somewhere else. We went to the counter, ordered 2 quesabirrias with drink (held up 2 fingers for the #) paid for the order, but when the girl called our order, it was only for one. She said she only heard 1. It looked totally different than the picture screen was advertising. It was really hard to cut into but too messy to pick up & eat with your fingers, so when you finally cut through, it cut through the Styrofoam plate. All through the day my stomach felt strange. I did not eat anything else because of how my tummy felt. Well, at 4:17a.m. I was in the bathroom throwing all of that up! I found out my friend was having the same issue. I called them to talk about that. The manager said we had to go to a Dr to prove we had food poisoning, bring it to them, they would talk to their insurance & maybe they can reimburse us. First of all, how do we prove to the dr that we did that so long ago? So when you eat somewhere & you get sick.....take a picture of what you put in the toilet so you will have proof you got sick! I wasn't able to eat anything else until around 3 p.m. I think the meat was bad because that's all that I threw up. So, Rene's, you just lost 2 customers!! I will not recommend you to anyone. Not as sick as...
Read moreIt's hit or miss really. I had a fish burrito from here a couple of nights ago that was pretty good, food seemed fresh enough, tortilla wrapped tight and right. I ordered the same burrito tonight and it was sloppy, ingredients felt and tasted mushy and old. Their shrimp tacos, one was full, the others barely had anything in them, tiny, basic shrimp. You can tell when someone in the kitchen puts care into the food vs when they don't. Their menu may also need updated or their employees need better training as to everything they serve because they have no clue about certain things shown on their own menu so you can't get it if they don't know it.
What do we expect from a late night tex Mex food joint? I don't know, consistency, better food, better employees who care about what food they're putting out...but that may be asking too much. I stopped going to Lalo's as much (for similar reasons) and thought this place was better. Same issues, different restaurant. After a couple of years coming here, I've decided I'm done. I can make better at home and now I will do just that. (But if anyone reading this wants a good alternative, try El Ricardo's restaurant.
Rene's: 2 stars out of 5 may be too generous. 2 out of 10. That's my...
