The West Wichita YMCA back office will do nothing to help or understand billing issues that arise. I was kind and explained the issue to the office but wasn't listened to or even escalated to get the fee taken off. I was just told "no" and that was that. If you have your account on auto draft and anything expires or is interrupted, they make their money but late charging you. We have never been late and I watch our finances very closely. When I noticed that the auto draft never happened, I brought this up and quickly updated our debit card on file. At that time, I was told by the East Wichita YMCA I had a fee on the account for the late payment - again, they never told us that anything expired or that they were waiting on us to update the card payment. I was told call West YMCA because that was the office that we had signed up at. I quickly called and was sent to the Lead of Membership Services. Before getting my name, looking at my account, or offering to help in any way she told me that, "finance will decline your request so that's a no." As a business woman who believes in customer service, the programs the YMCA provides, and financially supports them - I'm disappointed and will be dropping our memberships. If they treat someone like this that is kind and who has the money to pay it, I can only imagine how they treat others. I would have happy then taken my $30 charge and given back to the Y in other ways, but being dismissed and never listened to isn't...
Read moreMy only complaint about this place is that it's the absolute worse to take your family to go swimming at. The "family lockeroom", if you want to call it that, is a glorified prison cell. It's only got a place to sit. There's no locker, no shower, nothing. It's an empty room with a cement bench, like the Andover Outdoor Lockerrooms but without the restroom with showers around the bend or the locker rooms outside. If it wasn't for living right down the road, I'd go to the North YMCA or similar where they actually have a family locker room.
Other than that, the staff I regularly see there are great, the regular members are great. We only really use the pool but I have had mostly positive interactions from everyone there and the negative ones are always someone I never see again, be it staff or members. It's an old building but man I wish whoever designed that building had a little more foreknowledge that families might want to go there and don't want to be adults in the youth locker rooms or youth in the adult...
Read moreThis is my second favorite Wichita YMCA (my favorite being the Downtown Y). We go here because it's closer to home and my children prefer this KidZone. I wish there was more to look at while running the track. Also every time someone uses the towel dryer in the women's locker room, or whatever that thing is that makes all the noise, the showers get scalding hot then freezing cold. The steam room never has steam either. You have to wait at least ten minutes for steam. There is a wide variety of equipment and the staff is really nice. I also like that it doesn't get quite as crowded as the downtown gym. I haven't tried any of the classes. My sister tried Zumba but didn't like it because they didn't do any sexy latin dancing like they're supposed to, she said. They just did aerobic type movements. All in all I like it. WAAAY better than any YMCA from Cedar Rapids, IA,...
