edit i changed to one star because my fiance got sick from the food all last night and today.
We wanted to go but there was no option for no onions and we were really close so we walked in to make order. We were welcomed quickly and they sat us down w menus which was nice.. and then we sat.. and sat.. and sat.. somebody came over and said ur to go right? We said yes and i go to staft my order but they said sum one will help you.. and we sat and sat again. I started to just click on my online order but my fiance waved somebody dow. And said we wanted to order. Ther server was nice. Took our order. We didnt wait all that long for the food or to pay. He then made the boba tea at the end so it was fresh which was nice.. now the food. It always smells so good and looks amazing in there. I was devestatingly disappointed. I got the spicy yakisoba w chicken. It was not spicy. Not only that it had no actual flavor. Like noodles in a flavorless oil. Idk how it was even possible to taste of nothing. If i bit in to the ginger the overpowering flavor of ginger was there. But that isnt spicy. Nor do i enjoy ginger anyways so not good. The chicken on this is like some sort of pulled chicken. Not what i expected. Very greasy oily and not good. The shoyu ramen.. the dish my daughter wanted w no onions aka the only reason we ordered in store and waited forever.. still had a large handful of onions on it. My fiance ordered tonkatu chicken (sp?) W fried rice. It actually tasted exactly like mine. Meaning it tasted of nothing. Idk how it was possible. I thought we had covid or something. But sadly it was just the food. How does fried rice not even have a hint of soy sauce flavor? Just oil w no flavor and rice. We had the bang bang shrimp tho, and that was quite tasty. It had good flavor. I am so disappointed because we were so excited to try all the stuff here that looked sooo good! Such a shame. If the food had been good i would not have minded the wait. But now it all adds up to bad. I gave 2 stars because again that shrimp was good. And while the service took forever the server was...
Read moreUpdate - Recently took my son who was visiting from California there for lunch. The quality of the food had gotten pretty bad over time, and there is no effort put into presentation. Japanese food is as much about presentation as it is about taste, and our meals were lacking in both. My wife's friend rice was drenched in oil, pieces of vegetable were cut too large, like what you would see in a stew. My ramen noodles were overcooked, and the presentation looked like something I would get at McDonalds. The staff changeover has been tough since the pandemic, I get it, but the owners should be making sure the back of the house staff at least knows how to prepare, cook and present food the way Japanese food is supposed to be. For me, it was bittersweet, since I had many fond memories of the place. I don't know if I will ever go back, sine this last time was suck a disappointment. Now that there are other options in town, I am not sure I want to put up with mediocre psuedo-asian when I can get better.
I love this place. Some dishes I haven't had since my childhood. Grilled Hamachi collar is delicious, the Gobo appetizer is nearly as good as my Mom's. I try 5-6 appetizers each visit and haven't had one I didn't like. Their Ramen, all that I have tried, are delicious. The Black Garlic Ramen is noteworthy. I like having the flexibility to add to the bowl however I want. What sets this place apart from the Delano store is that alcohol sales. Try the hot Sake for starters. It pairs well with the food served here. Sure, there are things they could do a little better (fried rice comes to mind, as well as the depth of flavor in some of the Ramen Tare), but a Ramen place of this quality is unusual and wonderful, and to have it here in Wichita is a treat. I will continue to make this a regular weekend stop. I hope it is a successful location and the...
Read moreMaybe we hit a bad night, but our experience was extremely lackluster. The decor is typical trendy ramen joint and the place was clean, but there were no condiments on the table. We had to ask for chopsticks, and were given cheap, splintery disposable ones, even though we were eating in. (Do people actually eat ramen with a fork? Because that’s what we were given first.)
The food itself was the biggest letdown of the evening. The takoyaki appetizer was served barely warm and stinted on the condiments. We got two different ramen bowls: the garlic and the tonkotsu. Literally these were the two most disappointing bowls of ramen I’ve ever been served anywhere. Both were BLAND. (I’ve never looked around for the salt in a ramen joint before.) The 3 (garlic) and 2 (tonkotsu) slices of meat were extremely thin and the black mushrooms and bamboo shoots had an odd texture.
The serving sizes were pretty good for the price, but honestly, it wasn’t good enough to eat more than we had to.
Though the dining room isn’t big, there were four women working. We still had trouble getting refills and we watched food sit at the counter undelivered for an unfortunate amount of time. Our server didn’t bother to stop by after we got our food till she delivered the check. Another server eventually saw me looking for help and got our refills. She was very nice, so maybe our server was just having a bad night?
Anyway, this was our first time here and based on the reviews, we might give it another try - but we’ll order something other than ramen. Luckily there’s great ramen to be had...
