We were on our way back to Raleigh from spending a weekend in Boone. We stopped here to eat because it had great reviews, but we were all so disappointed. Walking in, I had my expectations set high because of how beautiful the restaurant is. It has to be the nicest Mexican restaurant I've ever been to. The bathrooms were spotless. The rest of the restaurant looked very clean. The hostess did not really greet us. She just kind of stared at us until I told her how many were in our party. Then she grabbed a few menus and some silverware and walked us to a table and left. Our server was polite but not friendly. It seemed like she was on autopilot the entire time. The restaurant was not busy at all. There were so many seats available but for some reason she sat us next to a decorative ledge on the wall where the servers were keeping their broom, dustpan, cleaning supplies, and random pitchers of water and tea. It was unsightly, and I'm pretty sure that's not where they're supposed to have those things because I saw an actual supply area near the hostess stand, away from the diners. They kept walking past us to get the broom and put it back. It felt like they had sat us in a supply closet. We were so far away from other guests and didn't get to enjoy the beautiful restaurant because of our surroundings. Other families came in and were seated away from their cleaning area. I hate to say it's because we're black but 🤷🏾♀️. What made it worse is that the table next to ours was full of servers eating their own lunch. We didn't feel like we were guests in the restaurant. It's like they were hiding us away. The food was not good at all. I knew as soon as I got the salsa for the chips. There was absolutely no spice. It was basically crushed tomatoes with a little cilantro, salt, and pepper. Maybe I'm spoiled because I'm used to living in areas with a large Hispanic population. I understand that sometimes you have to tweak your recipes to serve the palate of the area you serve, but never in my life have I ever had bland Mexican food. This food had no soul. This is NOT authentic Mexican food. If you're from the area, you'll probably think this food is great. If you're used to eating REAL Mexican food from a spot that gives you the menu and it's in Spanish, please do not waste your money here. You will be severely disappointed. I would never come back...
Read moreI only give two stars for presentation and staff attentiveness. The food is horrible.
The atmosphere and building are beautiful.
The staff were friendly and attentive. We went during lunch on a Saturday and it was not crowded.
The food, well let's just say that the cook / chef needs to eat at a Mexican restaurant. There was absolutely no flavor to the food nor layered spiciness (not hot sauce or just salt added) that comes from preparing Mexican food correctly. The food was bland and had absolutely no depth to it.
Issues - the mole sauce that was poured over the pablano looked and tasted like tomato paste from a can. There was absolutely no chiles or chocolate flavors in it.
The beef in the taco tasted worse than Taco Bell, if that is possible. I'm not sure if they are boiling their hamburger to remove the grease from cheap meat or adding textured soybean into the meat. Either way, there is absolutely no flavor and it does not even taste like beef. We did not eat it and when asked if we needed a doggie bag, we passed on it. It was not edible and would not even feed it to our dog. At no time, did our waitress ask us how the food was.
The lunch fajitas were OK. Nothing special. Salt for flavoring and the steak was overcooked and tough.
The portions and prices are fine, if the food was better prepared. The food presentation is nice.
The trend in Mexican restaurants is to have a salsa bar. I would suggest putting one in when your chef's learn to use spices and make Mexican sauces correctly.
The menu items seem more like Tex-Mex food. "Nacho cheese" used on items....gross...all that makes me think of is the nachos at sporting events which use nacho cheese straight out of a can and is nothing more than some kind of flavored soybean oil product with cheese flavoring.
I will come back when you learn how to use spices and the food is better prepared. I've had better Mexican food out of...
Read moreMy husband and 4 friends visited Sunday 8-20-17. Our server was obviously very new and very nervous. It took over 30 minutes to get our drink order and we had to ask for water. Our bar drinks took at least 20 min longer and there was a lot of confusion over the bar drinks. When confronted by a wrong bar drink the bar lady appeared quite huffy about being confronted with her mistake. I finally had to tell the waiter that we were ready to order after sitting for almost an hour. The waiter seemed quite confused over orders that seemed to be quite clear on the menu. When the food finally arrived there seemed to be a lot of confusion about bringing the correct menu items with the main courses and we had to request them. The food was very bland - seemed to be no spices at all which is strange for Mexican cuisine. We were all extremely disappointed. We also noted that several people who entered much later than ourselves were served before us and indeed one group actually came in later than we did and had already finished and left by the time we were ordering!! There did not appear to be a lack of wait staff. Obviously management at this place is not keeping up with what is going on and in our case, we felt that an obviously new waiter should have had a lot more supervision especially since this place has not been open more than 2 weeks. None of us will...
