This place has all of the lore attached to easily be one of the top 3 pizza places in Pittsburgh. Iām going to be 38 and only found out about this place a few months ago. I cannot believe this has remained a secret to me for this long. You call to order and they answer with āHello!ā This is due in part to another reason why the lore parallels the pizza, and as Iāll explain. Orders usually take between 35 min-1 hour. I ask you to look at the picture of the place in Google Maps. It is an actual HOUSE on a ONE WAY STREET! You go to a screen door, ring the buzzer and one of Mary Joās family members ask your name. This place is 80 years old which makes you wonder if this place has been grandfathered in to the area. I had to wait 3 cars deep a few weeks back. I was hoping I wasnāt blocking anyone but they were all waiting for pizza. Find a pizza thatās this good, for the price they are. You canāt! Iād say the sauce and crust combination is untouched in the Valley. Itās terrible that chains try to sell you on good pizza when itās mediocre, at best. Yes Iām talking about the place near Sheetz and Speedway on 130 & Mosside. We recently paid $30.00+ for two pizzas, roughly the same size, that pale in comparison to Mary Joās.
There are probably things I am forgetting to mention but I will argue with anyone, anyway about pizza in the Mon Valley and surrounding areas. I have been robbed of decades of great pizza from this place. Iām sure I will make up for it in the coming months.

Ā Ā Ā Read moreThis pizza is one of the best pie pizzas that I ever had. I am from Steubenville Ohio so I get to enjoy that really good Square pizza with cold cheese on top weekly, but this place is definitely a hidden š. That is half of the reason why I enjoyed it so much. The fact that it's a house on a one way street slanging za out of the basement is so nostalgic. I honestly drove by and parked up the street wondering if it was even a real pizza joint. I stepped out of the truck and could smell the pizza from a block up. I walked down and was greeted by an extremely nice lady and was informed she was sold out for the day so I placed an order for the next day to take it home to the family after work. I finished my shift the next day and went and picked up 2 pizzas one regular and one with only cheese. Drove them over an hour back home and the 7yo and her mom absolutely loved it. Prices were great, $7 a pie no matter how many toppings. We will be...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreIāve been eating this pizza since I was young kid. It has undergone virtually no changes over several decades. It will be forever my favorite food until the day I die (unless the recipe changes). Itās a sweet sauce, the dough composition is very unique, and the cheese has a secret taste and density to it. The single size (medium-ish) pizza is all they sell but toppings do not cost extra. I used to only eat plain because itās almost too good to put toppings on. Itās inexpensive ($8), pick up only, itās hidden in a residential basement, and hours of operation are limited. I eat a lot of pizza, many different pizzas, and none enhance my mood more...
