We've lived in the Monroeville area for almost 7 years. HOW HAVE WE NEVER HAD FOOD FROM HERE???? We love Mexican food. It's a weekly thing. It's always in the take-out rotation. As is typical with a late-night Sunday dinner scramble where nobody wants to cook we searched Doordash for some options. We found Rey Azteca. We always overlooked it and never ordered. Well, tonight we were really in the mood for Mexican food, and our go-to was closed. Then our backup to the go-to was closed. Rey Azteca is was. Yeah, this is our new go-to. I got the Cancun Shrimp Burrito and good lord. It was HUGE! It was stuffed with the most delicious shrimp and veggies. Husband got the supreme burrito and the same with his. It was stuffed with the most delicious chicken. One of our sons got the Mark Burrito. I've never seen a burrito the size of a 13-year-olds head before. We've also never found a dish that actually fills the bottomless pit that is one of our 13-year-olds. He was actually full after eating it! The other kiddo got the dinner combo with 2 hard shell tacos and an enchilada. He is the pickiest eater ever. He is not adventurous with his food. He ate everything including the rice I couldn't because I was stuffed. If you are wondering what you should eat or if you should eat Rey Azteca...the answer is YES! Even if you don't want Mexican...
Read moreMy daughter ordered shredded beef tacos. The beef wasn’t even shredded on it. It was in clumps. She tried it anyway and her first bite ended up in her napkin. We told the server who was nice....and she got the manager. The manager came over with an attitude questioning my daughter about what it was she didn’t like. She said she didn’t like the taste, how it looked or anything about it. He basically said well you still gotta pay. I told him that was poor customer service. He laughed about it and said if she read the menu she would know it was shredded. She told him she tried it and didn’t like the taste. So it wasn’t about it being shredded. Which....it was clumped in chunks so it was far from shredded. He just laughed. The server was very apologetic. I told her I really liked my shrimp fajitas but would never come back because of the manager and my daughters experience. She was going to order something else but he told her she would have to pay for both meals. I have never experienced that lack of professionalism from a manager, I will be calling corporate. Our first stops that day were Mad Mex, Applebee’s and Patrons and all were too crowded so we tried Rey Azteca for the first time. We were surprised how empty it was. My guess is shredded tacos that weren’t shredded.....and bad customer service. Booooo...
Read moreThe staff was nice enough and the place itself was clean and nice. They bring out salsa and tortillas which I love but found their salsa to be bland. I ordered a number 11 which was a beef taco, beef burrito and beef enchilada. The only thing correct that was on my dinner plate was the beef taco. The other two items were nothing more than flour tortillas with ground beef thrown into them topped with something that tasted like barbeque sauce, GROSS. I ate the taco which was mediocre at best and left the rest of the mess for the waiter to take away. Anyone could clearly tell by what was left on the plate that I was not happy with my meal at all. The waiter just took the plate and didn't even bother to ask how the meal was. I wasn't going to squabble over a $10 meal. We were given the check and upon reviewing it, I saw that my #11 meal was marked at a #5 meal. My husband ordered the steak burrito which he really enjoyed so there was that. I don't think I will give this place a second chance. Everyone's taste is different so my suggestion is to make sure the waiter/waitress confirms your order and when you get your meal, make sure it is exactly what...
