Amazing tapas, easily one of the best restaurants in Williamsburg! Everything absolutely delicious - ham croquets, bacon-wrapped dates, and eggplant with honey are all must-tries. Most of the tapas we've tried are very rich, so beware if that's not what you're looking for, but if that's your thing, this is your place! Honey eggplant is so perfectly and richly fried and sweet, it could easily be a dessert. Sangria is very good, especially the red. Pan con tomate, pastry-puff-wrapped chorizo, and ensalada de fresas are all great as well. Reasonably priced, and good service to boot - was impressed at how perfectly paced each dish was served to us as we gradually worked our way through the meal, obviously serving everything at once would've been too much and would've barely fit on the table! Great ambiance as well, charming and romantic venue. 10/10, can't recommend enough! Update 05/2025 - Another great visit! Eggplant, dates, croquets, sangria, and ensalada fresas are good as ever! Pork meatballs are good, and the Moroccan chicken skewers are amazing, a fantastically seasoned must-try! The mushroom special in sherry sauce and scallop special were both good, and the two carajillo cocktails, one with Copper Fox Rye, were both excellent. Basque cheesecake was amazing, and churros and flan were very nice as well. Only complaint this visit was that service was pretty slow, we were seated outside so perhaps there were some large parties inside for William & Mary graduation weekend.

So I won’t lie. I was disappointed. This is my favorite restaurant in the whole world. They have a very established reputation for traditional Spanish dishes. They changed the menu. They used to offer 3 different paellas in 2019 but now they only have one paella and they determine which paella they will do that day. So today I got the shrimp paella. Not great. See photo. There were only 4 shrimps, the rice was overcooked seasoned with a tomato paste and there was no evidence of saffron inside the dish. It just wasn’t as good as their seafood paella and when people think paella they think seafood paella. The Albóndigas was good. Very traditional. I had sangria and it was fantastic. Towards the end of the meal I complained to the waitress that I was being attacked by 🐜 biting ants. She ignored me completely. I didn’t stay for dessert because I was being eaten alive. They have to spray their outside area for ants. Not fun. I would have loved to try the flan. La tienda, please stop making all the other paellas and just make the seafood paella. This is what people are expecting. See attached photo. This was the last paella I had at your restaurant and it was outstanding. Your shrimp paella pales in comparison.

I'd be lying if I didn't want everyone I know to try this place out, but I'd also be lying if I told you it was a perfect experience. So let's start with the good. The food is about as authentic as it gets, bar some odd additions, ostensibly to cater to the local crowd (ask for aioli on the side if it's on the dish). The ingredients are top notch, from the jamon to olive oil. Veg, bread, and fish are super fresh as well. For a hot, muggy, summer day, it's was quite pleasant for a long drawn out day of sips and nibbles. Now for the qualms. Their tables are a bit too small to comfortably enjoy a proper spread. It's cute for a Parisian cafe but frustrates the purpose of enjoying many small plates. On the right side of the patio, there's a happy family of ants on the sill. Two of them made their way into my wine glass, which I'm not particularly bothered by, but may be off-putting to others. Lastly, and this is likely just a matter of opinion, if you get a paella - you have to ask for soccarat. Without - it's like a tasty rissotto in a paella pan, but hey, to each their own. Give it a shot, it's cute, it's tasty and unique in oh so many ways.

Lousy customer service over the phone. In October 2017 the La Tienda phone rep could not/would not guarantee that my $500+ order would arrive in MI in 6 days time. In fact she suggested I send it second day delivery. My response was that nearly a week seemed more than sufficient time for standard delivery, especially in this day and age. I also explained that I was obliged to pay for 2-day delivery service the prior year for an order of nearly $1000 [whose weight was such that even the regular delivery rate was expensive], as they could not guarantee delivery in 5 days then either and went on to add that I was unwilling to do so again this year. The phone rep was hardly sympathetic to my plight but after hanging up, I nonetheless hoped that she or La Tienda would place a rush on my pending order in an effort to try and accommodate me, especially since we were talking about having 6 days to do so this time. Much to my disappointment, once in MI on what had become an annual hunting trip with a group of friends, no package ever arrived. Needless to say I was rather upset. La Tienda should hope and pray that Amazon [with it's 2-day free delivery service on virtually everything they sell] does not get into their line of business in a big way anytime soon. As they will likely put them out of business, just as they have done to so many others who refused to wake up and vastly improve the manner in which they conducted their business in the 21st century.

Response to the owner [as I can't seem to post this after/following the owner's response] : Rushed through the complaint did we? Actually, I now realize a good portion of your response was "canned". As noted in my second sentence, we are talking about an order I attempted to make in October 2017. Thus no, I am not expecting it at this point. 2] There was no part of what I sought to order that was the slightest bit perishable, thus tip top condition was a given. 3] You are hardly still a little family operation any more. In fact I would not be surprised if La Tienda was quite bigger an operation than Amazon when the latter first got underway in 1998. 4] The referenced Amazon delivery times that I mentioned go as far back as 2004, when I first began ordering from them. Furthermore, back then they did not have among a great many other things, the warehouses throughout the country that they do now. Nor leased planes, cargo ships and local delivery vans either, as they currently have at their disposal. Thanks for your response...

Had an absolute terrible experience here about 3 weeks ago. We went to dinner on a Friday night because we had heard they had a good happy hour and food. Our server was inexperienced, which is no issue to our group as most of us have been servers at some point. We had a reservation for 5:15 and they called us the day of to ask if we could be there at 4:30. Unfortunately we all did not get out of work until closer to 5, so two guests from our party of 4 went up at 5. We preordered our paella because they said it could take an hour, which we were fine with. We ordered a few tapas, which were very small (yes I know tapas are typically small but these were smaller than normal). Once our tapas were finished we waited about half an hour for the paella to come out, but enjoyed sipping on our sangria. After we finished our meals, one of our guests order flan. As we waited on the flan, we could see the other server with blonde hair was pointing her finger at us telling the people they were waiting for us to get up. She then told our server to tell us to take the flan to go. Our server came up and said she made a mistake and asked us to take our flan to go. We cancelled the flan, as we were feeling uncomfortable. We handed her our cards and asked for the meal to be split onto two cards. When we got our receipts we noticed they still charged us for the flan. Instead of voiding the transaction as normal they said something about credit. The server asked us just to sign the copies of our receipt, so we wrote void on our copies and waited for the next ones. She then went back to the register where she was yelled at by the other server and her manager. The other server continued to go back to the host stand and point at our table and let everyone waiting in line they were waiting on our table to get up. She then proceeded to come to the table and see "what is wrong". This was a terrible experience to say the least, and it is unfortunate because we live down the street. Do...

Worst experience I've ever had ordering online. I ordered 4 cazuelas last December. About a week later, I received a shipment from La Tienda...with one cazuela in it. No explanation whatsoever in the box, nor did the company contact me (they could have because they had my email address and phone number). I had to contact customer service, at which point they told me that the cazuelas were backordered. Mind you, when I placed my order, there was no mention of the cazuelas being on backorder. Customer service also didn't even bother to offer a refund or replacement. I had to inquire about those options, as well.

The new cazuelas were supposed to arrive in February, so I decided to wait it out, despite my frustration with a company accepting my money and giving me nothing in return without any notice or efforts to contact me.

It is now May, and the cazuelas STILL have not arrived. I asked to be kept updated on the shipment progress, but La Tienda still has never contacted me without me first contacting them. Incredibly frustrating. In short, I paid $44.40 in December for 4 cazuelas, and received only one. In the 6 months since that order, La Tienda has kept my money and given me nothing more in return, has utterly failed to communicate the process or progress to me until I take the time to contact them, and has forever lost a customer. This is literally the worst customer service I have ever experienced. I held off on writing a review until now because they kept promising the problem would be resolved, but it's always one more month. If you're thinking of ordering from La Tienda, I strongly urge you...
