I went here the other night for a work dinner meeting. It located only a couple minutes off the the interstate which for anyone traveling though is great.
The place When you pull up their are only a few parking spots out front however just passed the restaurant across the street is a parking lot. So you dont have to walk far which is nice. It is a small restaurant but very nice inside. Bathrooms were kept clean which is always a plus for me.
The food I started with a salad of baby greens, strawberries and bacon covered with a light vinaigrette. Almost anytime I see a salad that says bacon I am ordering it! I loved it. All ingredients tasted fresh and were served chilled which is how I like my salad. I know it should be obvious but I have been to high end places that had salads that looked and tasted like there were out a pre-made bag not so here. For dinner I orderd the Manzo alla Griglia which is grilled Black Angus strip steak or seared on volcanic stone, pan seared broccolini, roasted garlic mashed potatoes. All I can say is everything was really good! Steak was cooked well and had great flavor. For Dessert all I can say is wow our waiter read off about 10 items. Which really was my only complaint. He never offered to bring us a menu with the list. So you had a make a split decision on what you wanted. I went with the creme bruelee which was good but nothing special. It also was on the small side for a dessert.
The bonus Maybe some of you will think this is not the norm but I find when I go out eat I find most restaurants have terrible coffee! I rarely order it because most of the time it tasted like it has been sitting there for a year or like water. Anyone else relate??? I decided to order some and I was impressed! Was it the best I have ever had? No but it was good which is more than I can say for most places!!
The verdict I was impressed and maybe even a little more because I didnt have to the pay the bill! The place is somewhat pricey but my food was pretty great. In fact so much so I would like to come back and try more even if I have will have to pay...
Read moreWe had a truly lovely dinner at DiSalvo's last night. I was SO impressed. The food was of the utmost high quality -- this restaurant could do well in Manhattan or another large city! The house salad was astonishingly good -- it was inspirational as a reminder that the best food can often be simple if it is fresh and carefully prepared...crispy and light but with richness from high quality oil and vinegar. My husband had veal marsala and found it to be one of the best he's ever had -- very authentic and succulent. I had rack of lamb and was in heaven -- crispy fat and juicy lamb with a gorgeous flavor. The bread had a fantastic crackle -- so hard to find in PA or anywhere in the east coast for that matter. We started with oysters, which were small but tasty (and our server brought extra!). The service and setting were also wonderful. It was lovely out so we opted for their outside seating area feels like you could be in Italy -- beautiful ivy and plantings and generally prettiness all around -- dim with candles, giving a nice intimacy (and live music, which was just OK in some ways but not too loud and which definitely added to the ambiance). We also lucked out and got Carlo as a waiter -- he was phenomenal. He really listened to us and gave great recommendations on food and wine (great Italian wine, too!) and paced the meal nicely for us. It was a treat to get to talk with him about his family's background and he clearly has a passion for providing diners with the best possible experience. We...
Read moreVisited last weekend for the first time and I will start with the positive. The food was delicious! We had the shrimp appetizer, pappardelle bolognese and ravioli which were all great and perfect generous portions. The dinner rolls were quite disappointing. Tasted like something from Costco or BJs rather than good Italian bread which I would expect to be served here. I will note the oil/vinegar/seasoning dip was great!
Overall the service was very disappointing. We were told we had one server, then a different one, then finally we had John, who was not very attentive or professional. My boyfriend had to ask for a wine menu after he asked what we wanted to drink. The menu was then handed to me. We also had to ask for more water when our glasses were empty which was mishandled. The pitcher finished filling my boyfriend's glass and the waiter never returned with more water to fill mine, until we flagged him down. The only time the waiter checked on us he asked "do the entrées meet your needs" which we thought was a bit odd. At a nice restaurant we have certain expectations of service which definitely fell short here.
We are from NYC and were in town for a long weekend. We came here for a nice dinner since the Peter Herdic house was closed but will not...
