Sunnyside Cafe boasts "nothin' fancy, just good food." I have to say, they delivered! We were driving through on our way home to Grand Rapids from Detroit, and decided to give it a try. We liked the slogan. Nothin' fancy means it is a simple space in a strip mall. Clean and efficient. Brightly colored. The staff was friendly, greeted us quickly, and got us drinks. The food came out quickly as well. We ordered a ruben sandwich with onion rings and egg salad with fries. The food was hot and fresh. The ruben was crispy on the outside, juicy and flavorful inside. The fries and onion rings were fried perfectly. It was all reasonably priced. Averaged about $10 each. The only negative would be that after bringing our food, our waitress never followed up with is. We never saw her again. No drink refills, etc. Another girl came and took our empty plates and brought our bill. Overall, we really enjoyed our stop at Sunnyside Cafe. If you want nothin fancy but good food, it is highly recommended!

Since an appearance on the Food Network show "Restaurant Impossible," this place has really figured things out. The staff is friendly, and the food is delicious. You have to take advantage of those specials because they are getting so creative and making delightful dishes. We drive out of our way to go here as often as we can now, because we haven't had a bad meal yet. The only issue we've had here is that things can be a bit slow if they are understaffed, but they are working on that, and the food is well worth the wait. This picture is of my wife's omelette and toast, across from my eggs and bacon, along with the special...an Elvis Cinnamon Roll (peanut butter, bananas, and bacon on top.) We cleaned our plates!

A few of my friends recommended this place to me. This morning we got a bunch of people together and came in for breakfast. We had a party of six and the restaurant was pretty busy so we had to wait to be seated for about 20 minutes. Two of our friends went over to BigB to grab a coffee while we waited. When the came back, we had got a 4 person table and added chairs to make out party fit. Then, a waitress came up to us and told us that we could not have that many people at the 4 person table. She then told us that our friends couldn't have the coffee in the restaurant. While we proceeded to wait for a another table to clear up, we received no beverage service for about another 10 minutes. Finally when a table cleared up WE had to move the tables together. We placed our order and continued to wait. The service was slow but it was understandable since it was so busy. What wasn't exceptable was that WE had to request refills for our beverages. When we finally got our food, I noticed that there was a HAIR right on top of my omelette. I sent it back to the kitchen. The waitnress literally asked if I wanted her to take it off the omelette for me... I could have done that myself, the point of me pointing it out was so that I could receive a new one. The waitress took it back to the kitchen, and I waited for my omelette to be remade. My boyfriend requested hot sauce for his burrito, but the waitress failed to bring it so another one of my friends had to go up to the counter and ask for it. I had to do the same for my coffee that our server FAILED refil. I finally got my omelette, and the waitress said she would reduce the bill for the trouble which was nice. The omelette was GREAT! I wish the service would have been up to par with the food. When we received the bill, my boyfriend noticed that it was a bit to much for what we had ordered, when we took it up they had the THREE waitresses try to recalculate it. Turns out they overcharged us about $5.00... Nevertheless, the food here was great and the prices were good; however, I was APAULED by how bad the service was. I would consider coming back if I knew the staff could be more trustworthy and on top...

It was terrible. When I got my Farmer's Omelet. Looked like it had been cooked with water & not on a grill or frying pan. Potatoes were cold. Toast came out 5minutes after the Omelet. That I can live with. Took 3-4 bites of hash browns, cut into my omelet,2 bites. 3rd bite? HAIR in the food. Absolutely disgusting & unacceptable. They offered something else, Ummmm, NO. 1st time there. Thought I'd try them. Never eat there again.

Well, I declined the offer, because of finding hair in the food. And if you think I was "yelling"? Wow... I didn't swear, yes I expressed that I didn't appreciate being smirked at for my concern of finding hair in the food. You should be embarrassed for serving food with hair in it, cold food & not even have the toast come out with the meal. SMH Maybe control the quality better? Don't worry, I'll...
