My husband and I visited this restaurant recently. Unfortunately, we were under the impression that this was a sit down style restaurant which may bias my review some.
When we arrived we were surprised to find that we had to order our food at a counter like dining in at a fast food restaurant (McAlister’s comes to mind). There were giant boards with the menu options and a couple of menus taped to tables in front of the counter for us to peruse. I noticed that there weren’t prices for the appetizers or for many of the Cajun favorites they had listed. Despite the initial disappointment of this place not having the dine in dinner restaurant we expected we went ahead with our order. Then were told to seat ourselves. We ordered the fried pickle appetizer, fried catfish meal (large), and the Cajun pasta. With drinks and tax the total was just over $43. We thought this to be a bit pricey for the style of place but hoped the food was worth it.
Our server was fast and friendly. She quickly brought out our drinks, my fried catfish meal, and then the appetizer and my husband’s pasta shortly after. The food came out hot and the portion sizes were very pleasing. The drinks tasted okay we got a sprite and coke but I believe the filter is old in the machine or maybe the ice wasn’t from a well filtered source because you could taste the poor quality water in the drinks. I didn’t make it through my glass. My husband tasted it too but he did get a refill anyway. Fried pickles were yummy, hands down my favorite part. Fried catfish was okay. I couldn’t really taste the fish because the breading was a bit thick and over seasoned. My husband had the pasta and while he said that it tasted like something you could get at Olive Garden instead of bursting with Cajun flavor, he did like it. He said there could have been a little more shrimp in it for his taste.
Overall: We were let down by the atmosphere of the place and while we don’t mind paying $50 for a good dine in date night, this place gave me Long John silver vibes. However, the size of the entrees compared to the price isn’t too out of wack. The taste didn’t scream Cajun flavors to us (granted I got catfish), nor did it hit the spot for us at all flavor wise. This isn’t a place that we would revisit on our own. However, if a friend really wanted to eat here we would be willing to give it...
Read moreI don't normally leave reviews and almost never leave bad reviews. But I felt this one was neccessary. This place had really good reviews on Google Maps but I'm going to assume it's from people who have never eaten real Cajun food. I ordered the crawfish combo, seafood gumbo, and beignets. First the crawfish etouffee didn't taste or look like etouffee at all. It looked more like creole and tasted like neither. The fried crawfish were tiny. And I mean tiny. Not even big enough to dip in to remoulade with out sticking your fingers down in the sauce. The breading was very heavy. The jambalaya rice was bland but was cooked properly. It wasn't over or under cooked. The The hushpuppies that came with it were dense, chewy, and hard. Not light, fluffy, and crispy on the outside like they should be. The beignets were the same texture and except for the powdered sugar had zero flavor. They were extremely dense. I've saved the worst for last. The seafood gumbo was horrible. It wasn't even gumbo. It was like a bad gravy with off tasting, small pieces of seafood lightly, and I mean lightly, sprinkled throughout it. It was inedible. Like it was spoiled. We ordered the family size gumbo and each took one bite apiece and couldn't eat anymore. The boneless buffalo chicken wings that my daughter got were good. But that was about the only thing. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone. Unfortunately we ordered take out or I would have sent everything back except...
Read moreI recently visited this establishment for the first time and I was very impressed. VERY. My co workers and I were looking to eat crawfish and I had called around to a few different places and found that all of them were already selling them this year. I chose this place solely because the person who answered (Emily) was incredibility nice. We entered the doors and were immediately greeted with a warm smile and a sincere welcome by Emily. She explained what she liked off the menu with excitement. Jamie took our orders and was knowledgeable and polite. The food was the bomb. Seriously. I'm from New Orleans and this place actually knows how to make Cajun food. (unlike every other "Cajun" place I have been to). Even though it was not a restaurant where you order from your table the girls constantly made table rounds that made you feel like it was a regular order at your table kinda place. Patrick the manager also made rounds to check on patrons and he was someone you could tell not only loved his job, but loved his staff. He was amazing. Honestly, the food can be the bomb but if your staff is not the bomb as well it's not worth it for me to go back. (examples of good food but terrible service... guadalaharrys; sugarbritches and many more). I would give this place 10 stars if I could and I will DEFINATELY be back. Way to go Bubba T's. You have earned a loyal follower now! Thanks...
