Let me start off by saying my husband I love supporting small business and we especially love a good burger, from a 'local' burger joint. We have driven past this place several times when we have been over in Willis at one of our favorite antique stores and the nursery we get all of our garden supplies. We decided today would be the day we would give it a try for lunch since we have read all the rave reviews and the place is always packed with vehicles. We walk in a few minutes after 11 and we are the only ones in the place besides the cooks sitting out on the floor. We look over the menu briefly because we had looked at it on Google and had a good idea of what we wanted. We place our order, get our drinks and take our seat. I was immediately grossed out by how sticky feeling the booth felt on my legs. But I chalked it up to it being older. Our food came out almost immediately...how could it not when there was no one else there. We take the first bite into our burgers and it was half cold because the buns had a distinct chill to them. They were not warm, didn't taste fresh or even toasty. Such a let down. I was immediately disappointed. The burger itself, wasn't horrible, but the the chilled bun totally killed it. I had "seasoned" fries I asked to be done extra crispy and my husband had tots. AWFUL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The oil needed a major change in the fryer and you could taste it. Even had the oil been fresh, the fries were just a big NO. Not my forte. So maybe instead of having the cooks sit around in the dining area in between orders, they could get this taken care of...I didn't even bother with the fries. Absolutely gross. We wasted $29 on a lunch that was an absolute let down. The best thing about the whole meal was the drink. SAD. We won't be back. I do not understand where these rave reviews come from unless the folks of Willis don't venture out of their zip code...
Read moreSharp bone shard in my burger today. Despite me giving them the bone shard, manager was adamant that there are no bones in their burgers & I was reluctantly offered a refund for the burger only.
Unfortunately, after years of going here & advising others to do the same, today's experience was a complete let down. As I was enjoying my burger, I bit down on something hard & sharp, which turned out to be a sharp bone shard. It stabbed into my gum & possibly chipped my tooth. It certainly caused a bit of pain. After picking out the shard, I cautioned my wife & we continued eating very carefully. I am not one to blow things out of proportion, so I quietly pointed out the bone shard to the on duty manager, who offered me a refund. After a wait, I was advised that her General Manager, Alex, did not want to refund my meal & was adamant that there are no bones in their burger meat. She did refund the price of the burger only. I understand that things happen & sometimes mistakes are made, but if the management thinks that is an appropriate response to their hazardous mistake causing an injury to long time customer, I can no longer support this business. The results could have certainly been much worse. A $6.49 refund for a ruined meal, pain, & possibly an upcoming dental bill, gee, thanks.
Prior review from 4 years ago. Excellent burgers with several other items on the menu. Have never been disappointed. This place is small & easy to miss, but certainly worth checking out. Clean, fast friendly service. Not an abundance of seating, so it gets pretty cramped, but that is a testament to the...
Read moreNope! Sorry but I don't see how this place has such high reviews. I had the 1/4 burger, and it was not good. It tasted like a cheap frozen patty. For a place with this name, I expected way better out of their burger. My wife had hog dogs and though she didn't say anything bad about them. She also didn't say anything great. She simply said she didn't want to go back. My daughter had a corndog, and it was nasty. She refused to eat it. Said it didn't taste good. I took a bite and understood why. It tasted of grease. The oil was too cold when they cook it, so it soaked up the oil.
As for the place itself. It needs a face lift. The floor looks dirty. Because it is. The tables are dirty. The drink machine gave off a drink at your own risk vibe. The employees were not friendly. Just silents and cold stares. The trash can was overflowing and when I tried to throw our trash away. I was meet with a cascade of other people's trash.
Overall, not a good experience and could never recommend eating there, and with the town of Willis starting to blow up. Places like this are going to have to do better or else their days...
