There are at least 3 reasons why I like AJ’s. First, their double bacon cheeseburger. In my opinion, it’s the best cheeseburger in all of Wilmington. That includes Nelly’s. And I like Nelly’s. The problem though with Nelly’s is that as big and juicy as their burgers are with all kinds of different toppings, is the same problem I have with many other establishments, like Five Guys, which I also like.
The issue I have is that they don’t season or apparently under season their meat. And it really all starts and ends with the meat. Way too often I have eaten a burger consisting of a delicious bun and toppings but with flavorless meat. AJ’s doesn’t have that problem. Is their burgers as big and juicy as Nelly’s? Nope. But at least their meat has flavor. And you can’t go wrong for the price.
Enough of me going on a tangent. Second, AJ’s fries are among the very best I have ever had anywhere. Hot and golden crisp on the outside and soft on the inside, they are delicious. And they offer you a lot for your money. Sometimes though, they can be inconsistent. MAKE SURE that you ask for salt! They have a tendency to not put enough on.
And finally third, and saving the best for last, is their gyros! I absolutely love their gyros! This is what I usually get when I eat here. They are the VERY BEST I have ever had. And they are consistently good. The meat is very tender, the cucumber “tzatziki” sauce is excellent, and the pitas are...
Read moreWas at A.j.'s on 7-28-18 @ 3:45pm. Food was good but could not rate to 5 stars do to customer service. We walked in looking at menu to place order. The cashier made no attempt to say hello... She just stared at us with a aggravated look. Seemed like she was mad that we were interrupting her lunch since she had food for herself at one of the tables. I then asked her if the #1 hot dog special came with two hot dogs. She rolls her eyes, turns her head, with a aggravating response .. "NOOO..., THATS A NUMBER 5 it says right there... 2 HOT DOGS..." I apologized for unconvincing her since that was the first greeting I got for walking into a.j.s. We sat at the table and food was not brought to table. She calls us to bring food to our tabe which was literally 8 feet away from the contour. She also was doing that with everybody else dining in. That gave us a lazy vibe from this employee since most of the tables are literally less then 20 feet from the contour. Really?? U could not of brought food out to the customers!!??? lazy!! Last time I was there, food was brought out to all tables. Id expect that at McDonald's or Burger King. Also asking for ketup was a issue too. Response was once again rude and disrespectful. Will be a while till I can make a return since burger king down the street can at least smile and say hi to...
Read moreIf I could give 0 stars I would. I am a delivery driver. I’ve never been to Wilmington but honestly now I’m scared to try anything you people have to offer. Now I know fast food is fast food but this was worse than hospital food. I had fries which were absolutely flavorless no salt and soggy. I also ordered a patty melt which in my mind I’m thinking there’s no way you can mess this up right ? Wrong. What I got took me back to about the 6th grade. Straight elementary school patty that’s probably been frozen for 5 years that they somehow transformed into a hockey puck. I would rather lick a hockey puck than ever touch that food again or step foot near this place. The bread on the melt was just one ball of grease I could have rung it out and filled an entire mop bucket. I didn’t eat all day and was starving so I got down as much as I could and just ended up immediately feeling sick. This place shouldn’t even be allowed to serve food. I have never written a google review in my life but after this place I am a changed man. This was quite literally the worst food I have ever eaten in my entire life and I have eaten crickets. Literal bugs. Horrible. Workers in there seemed nice so at least they have...
