Bonefish Grill — Restaurant in Wilmington

We chose Bonefish Grill Willmington at the last minute because we wanted a shrimp and scallop option and I noted on the reservation that we were celebrating my birthday. Upon arrival, however, our reservation was never acknowledged. Instead, we stood at the host stand as the host and manager openly discussed where to seat us based on “fairness” for the servers. This conversation, happening directly in front of us, felt unprofessional and unwelcoming.

When we were finally seated, we were first directed to a table in the center of the dining room, which we declined. The host had to seek manager approval to move us, not out of concern for guest preference, but seemingly out of concern that the waitress might be upset about table distribution. Again, this made us feel like an afterthought rather than valued guests.

Our service was slow, with more than six minutes passing before our server took our drink order. We received bread and, a few minutes later, our seafood dip appetizer arrived with burnt tortilla chips and a bland taste. Unfortunately, our entrées were even more disappointing.

My Chicken Marsala arrived with lukewarm mashed potatoes, overcooked spinach, and chicken that was oddly crispy. The presentation resembled cafeteria food rather than the elevated dining I expected from Bonefish Grill. When I pointed this out, the server removed my plate with a fork and saucer from another table — an unsanitary and unprofessional approach. She also suggested that if my chicken was removed, I would still be paying for the sides, despite their poor quality.

My husband’s cod, shrimp, and scallops were also poorly presented and unappealing, although he ate his meal quickly without complaint. To make matters worse, a gnat circled our table during dinner, adding to the overall unpleasantness.

To his credit, the manager did comp my entrée, but by that point the experience was ruined. What should have been a memorable birthday dinner instead became frustrating and disappointing. Even the hostess apologized as we left, acknowledging how happy we were when we arrived versus how deflated we looked when leaving.

This was our first visit to Bonefish Grill and, unfortunately, it will likely be our last. I truly hope you will take this feedback seriously, as the lack of professionalism, poor food quality, and missed opportunities for hospitality reflect poorly...

I've never eat it eaten at this location but those in my party had. The ahi tuna appetizer was excellent exactly as one would have expected. That's when things went downhill quickly. The delay between appetizer and dinner was 20 minutes. Our server was pleasant enough, but we saw him once in that entire wait. I don't know if he forgot to put the order in, but he was avoiding us. We never had a refill on water or ice tea. The meals came, and the food itself was so under seasoned that it was inedible. One of my party had the trout, which was under seasoned, overcooked, and she sent it back untouched when the waiter finally came back to see if we wanted anything else. The mac and cheese side, which is premium, was completely lacking in flavor. How can you make mac and cheese without any cheese flavor at all? The bacon didn't even step forward and provide seasoning or flavor. Baffling! The cedar plank salmon was cooked well, but completely without seasoning. I never add salt at the table. I am actually fairly salt sensitive. This was seasoned at all. Back to the service, the waiter did not argue or make any comment at all when we sent back the trout. Terrible experience! Hostess was rude when we asked her not to sit us near a large party so took us to the bar area & dropped our menus on the table & left. Sat for 15 minutes in a largely empty bar area w/o anyone coming to table. When hostess walked by we asked for our server to come & was given a rude look w/ no words. The bartender who was standing behind the bar the whole time finally called over to say she’ll be right over. She took our drink & appetizer order & after she delivered drinks disappeared again so we had to wait again to order dinner She never returned to the table to ask how things were after the kitchen staff brought our food. The bread tray had the dipping oil spilled all over the bottom of the bread making it soggy The appetizer was very salty & had scallops in it after she assured us was not in it & the fish & chips had the skin on under the breading & was not a great quality fish. Had to wait again to get her attention for the check while she went back to the bar to make a few drinks before bringing it over The ladies restroom was filthy with paper towels all over the floor w/only one useable stall out of three…fecal matter all over one & the other had vomit all over!
