Code 1 BBQ in Wilmington, MA.

TLDR - Food is 2/5 stars, Erica’s (Owner) customer service 2/5 stars, Sean’s (Owner) customer service 4/5 stars 🥴

Be careful of rude responses from Erica. The food was good but unfortunately not great. The more BBQ places you try the pickier you become; especially when comparing the limited options around MA…but Code 1 manages to fit in just fine.

They aren’t the best but there’s plenty to like from this establishment. The location isn’t the most convenient for me and there are other good bbq places near my home so I wouldn’t go back unless I’m in the area or seriously craving it.

We ordered the Sampler Dinner (Brussels and Collard sides), a 2-meat combo dinner (Corn salad and Coleslaw side), PB and Mac attack 16oz, Baked Beans 8oz and a Pork Belly Sandwich. Overall with tax and tip about $125.

Pros: -Beef Brisket was juicy and they ask if you prefer fatty or lean. -Pork belly has great flavoring, off the menu item -Lots of variety for the sides -Red sauce is on point, not too sweet and has a nice sticky texture

Cons: -Prices are a bit steep, for the portion sizes that they give I wouldn’t call it the best value. -We were third in line but they messed up prioritizing which orders to make first so people that came after us got potato salad and by the time they got to our order they ran out. -They’re new and still working out small business woes, they weren’t open at 12:00 so we had to come back at 2:00. They also ran out of many items on the menu including beef ribs, corn bread, potato salad, Roasted potatoes, roasted carrots, and brisket chili. -Some of the meats needed more seasoning and smoking. The ribs in particular lacked a nice bark or coating of dry rub. There was some but overall it could’ve been more flavorful. -A 2-meat combo dinner for brisket and pork ribs came with the same amount of beef and pork ribs as the sampler. The 2-meat dinner is 27.99 but for 29.99 in the sampler you also get a quarter of chicken and a good amount of pulled pork too so the 2-meat combo was not worth the price. -It was a little disappointing that we were one of the first customers for the day and ordered the pork belly sandwich when no one else did then after we ordered they proceeded to offer people free samples of it. This was offered free to everyone there except us… -Mainly takeout, inside is quite small -Rude responses received from one of the owners, Erica. Very bad customer service.

At first I said despite the gripes I would give it a try again at a much later date but then Erica went in on a rude tirade over social media. Again it’s good but just wasn’t amazing and for the price, I...

I've traveled all across New England trying various BBQ restaurants, and it's safe to say that Code 1 BBQ is arguably the best new BBQ restaurant to hit the Northeast! I recently tried their 'three meat sampler'; which included a massive beef rib (that honestly could've fed three people in itself), brisket, and pork belly. The beef rib came with a beautiful smoke ring and, just like the brisket, was extremely tender to the point where my fork pierced thru the meat like warm butter. I was also a huge fan of their three sauces and sides I chose to go with my sampler. I spent roughly $67.00 on their 'three meat sampler (which comes with 2 sides and cornbread)', and the portions-to-price ratio delivered an incredible deal, for how much food you get! I, unfortunately, was unable to try their pork ribs, only because they sell out so quickly (which speaks volume on how good they must be!), so I absolutely will be back soon to try those as well. IMO, Code 1 BBQ is the closest you will get to true Central Texas BBQ, here in the Northeast.

Lastly, I would like to acknowledge their incredible display of customer service. This past weekend was my first visit and the woman taking my order made me feel right at home, comfortable, and was extremely helpful in assisting me with my order/answering questions. The restaurant's Pit Master also came out front to give me a sample of their Burnt Ends (amazing!) and to simply chat it up. I truly appreciated this, as their level of customer service is not something you find at very many other restaurants.

I will 100% be return for many more visits in the future, and will be sure to tell all my friends and family about this...

Texan moved to Massachusetts here and I have struggled to find any decent BBQ up here. My husband and I found out about this place and decided to give them a try after church today! I can no longer say I haven't found good BBQ in New England!

This place was FANTASTIC!! The walk up counter feel, atmosphere and decor were all great. The lady that served us, I wish I caught her name, was SO KIND, incredibly friendly and made us feel so welcomed, like we were eating in her home and not at a restaurant! For Southerners, that hospitality often makes or breaks a place for us!

Now the FOOD!!! 🤤🤤🤤 We will be back because we want to try so much more! My husband had the Brisket Burger and I had the Pork Belly with mac and cheese!

EVERY BIT of our food was so good! The Pork Belly was close to the best I've had in years! The mac and cheese was so creamy and rich!

My husband audibly moaned when taking the first bite of his Brisket Burger! He's not a "foodie" type so rarely gets excited over food like that. He's been craving Brisket and was very impressed! (He's competed in BBQ competitions in Texas for over 20 years!!)

Everything was well seasoned (something we struggle to find here!).

Absolutely a fantastic experience and guarantee we will be returning, often!

Oh and the Texas Red BBQ sauce! Is the perfect combo of sweet, tangy and BBQ.

Thank you Code 1 BBQ for brining a flavor of home here!...

Wow! It is so refreshing to walk into a New England BBQ restaurant that actually smells like BBQ! Stopped in first time today ordered a Backyard burger medium rare (Burger, pork belly, egg on a toasted bun). I skipped the egg. Also had potato salad as a side and brownie bites. I had sweet and Alabama white sauce on the side. Burger was cooked perfectly, pork belly was rendered and smoky. The brownies bites were a great finish. Erica (owner) showed me around and chatted while my food was being prepared. That smoker on the website is what they use in the back. This is true BBQ that can't be found in New England anywhere else.. All the workers were smiling and enjoying what they do. So nice to be in a place that has such pride in the product they turn out.
