Golden Ginger — Restaurant in Wilmington

Update to my original review. We went back to try the Chinese side of the menu. It was sooooo good. We had the dumplings with a spicey peanut sauce. They were fresh made dumplings not the frozen kind. The peanut sauce was yummy but not for people who do not like spice. It had nice texture with red chili peppers mixed in with the sauce and chopped peanuts. For dinner we tried the Golder Ginger Two Delight a duo of light crispy shrimp and bone in peking pork ribs. The sauces on both were delicate, but sweet and savory. The garnishes they do at this place are amazing. The plate presentations are beautiful! Our other dish was half of peking duck. They prepare the duck fresh for you so it takes extra time if you order this. But it was worth the 30 min or so wait. Our waitress brings the duck out with all the peking trimmings. She does a tableside preparation for you of four wraps with hoison, julienned cucumber and scallions. Two thumbs up for the extra perking duck presentation. Everyone around us watched our waitress do the presentation. Nice touch! The restaurant was hustling last night with a steady stream of patrons. Safe to say this place has caught on with the locals. It is our new favoriate place. Original Review: Well after the first review for Golden Ginger, I decided to wait 6 hours just to be sure on our experience. I am happy to report that not only did we have great dining experience at GG, we did not get sick like the first reviewer. We were excited to try the new Asian restaurant that just opened July 20th. Atmosphere & Decor - Very nice space! You almost forget you are on Rt 38 in Wilmington. The space is modern yet casual. The wood chairs and tables almost look bamboo and add a natural element to the space. They definitely put some time into creating a serene atmosphere. The sushi bar area is small about 8 chairs maybe? The rest is tables. Plenty of seating. Menu - Huge! Both Chinese and Japanese. There are a lot of Asian staples but also some new and inventive selections. Service - Fantastic! Our server was very friendly asked for our names when he greeted us and returned many times calling us by our names. It was a nice touch. He made the dining experience even better. He really seemed to like his job. Food - We were overall impressed with what we had. We opted to stay in the back half of the menu, the Japanese section. Appetizers: Edemamme (piping hot and fresh) & the Beef Enoki roll. We really liked the beef roll. It was filled with wild mushrooms, sauteed then sliced like sushi. It was served with a light teriyaki sauce. Yum! Dinner: we tried 4 rolls. Tuna/Cucumber roll, Crab Cucumber roll, the Romance Roll (Sweet Potato/Avocado), Boston Red Sox roll (shrimp tempura, topped with crispy tuna and red fish roe, drizzled with spicy mayo) all 4 rolls were great. The Red Sox roll was probably our favorite. But all were good. Fish was fresh and tasty. We liked the sweet potato and avocado combo. I was not sure if it would work but it really did. Also the sushi rolling here is some of the best I have seen. I often find at some sushi places, you take a bite and it falls apart. Not at GG. They really roll a good piece of maki and it did not fall apart when you take half a bite. Overall great experience. So do not be scared away from first review. Give the place a try. We will...

I will write only one review..first I will start with several years back.when they first had open my mom wanted to surprise me ,she had been battling cancer for 6 years ,she place a order for pickup and entering the doorway before the second door the guy in front of her got his foot caught on the carpet which then caused my mom to trip shattering the bones in her arm.i got a call and flew not knoting where the place was...she never got her food as I followed the ambulance to lahey..she past shortly after ,,just after a 80 year old lady came on my side of the road and hit us totalled my car ,we had just left Lahey for her cancer treatment.......I always wondered about the place and kinda had some hard feelings toward the place..I travel around to every restaurant around and it's hard to find a good place. And when u do. All it takes is one cook to change. And things are not the same..as I find with some of the best,like China blossom and Beijing you become a number and food quality and sevice drops that's when I look for better..burn me once or twice and you don't get a third time I disappear........so I will say my close relative said let me take you for dinner what do you want and I said chinese...so she said let's go to golden ginger the place where your mom never got to eat so we did.. it felt a little strange because of what happen to my mom..but after eatting the food. I got comfort...we got tons and tons to take home..I'm a very big guy and can pack it down.my relative ate pretty well knowing she has a heart condition but good thing was food didnt taste greased ..some things were so good I couldn't wait to go back..we did 2.weeks later,we did the same thing ..everything we got was just as great..not sure if it was the day and time..it was like Thursday and a Friday around 5 or 6pm....so for now I will keep returning and start sending my friends....Reading past reviews about cost high....show me a cheap Chinese place they are all pretty close the same .if you think different. You haven't been to many then...i will add I am a big phantom lover and go just about every where,plus I go to there BBQ s and much more and have run into them many times...most people say. I should be the Phantom because I know where everything is. Best bet is judge your self and try it...we may. Or may not have the same taste...I'm a clean freak and clean plates and silverware is a priority for me. Hope...

The service: I placed an online order for pick up and when I arrived to pick it up, the staff found the order but said the ticket didn't go to the kitchen for some reason, so I had to wait 20 mins in store. The front person was kind and apologetic. The owner was standing right next to the interaction. He greeted me but didn't address the issue. I decided to wait at the bar and have a drink while I waited. It would have been a great business practice for the owner to say "hey, drinks on us for the mistake and extra wait" but he did not. I eventually got my food order and left. The staff at the front apologized again on my way out.

The food: The crab ragoon was very good. I ordered pork dumplings but I received shrimp dumplings. Regardless, they were good. We ordered a California roll, I know simple but all the more reason to get it right. It was not good at all. We ordered the tiger roll and it also under delivered. Lastly, we got the Lobster mango roll. This roll was very tasty and if the other two were anywhere near the same page, I'd give a much better rating.

All and all, the experience was just...
