What a wonderful lunch! We were fortunate and had "Angel" as our server who couldn't have been more welcoming and friendly. She was efficient throughout the meal, keeping our teas filled and checking back on us just the right amount of times. No hovering or "are you all doing ok" every 5 minutes. We received the exact food and sides we ordered and everything was piping hot, fresh and crispy where crispy was called for. My wife had the Big Fish sandwich and absolutely loved it. Fish was hot, it was crispy and the bun was nice and soft. As she put it, the perfect filet-o-fish sandwich. :-) I had the Wednesday special of half a fried chicken with two sides. It was $14 instead of the regular menu price of $17.50. What a deal it was too - the pieces were individual (a thigh, a wing, a drum and a breast). Obviously thought went into this -- It was easy to pick up and eat with your hands, just like fried chicken was born to be. The crust was incredible and the chicken was somehow done perfectly - moist, full of flavor and no undercooked bites in any of the pieces. It only got better when I realized it came with a side of Hot Honey to dip the bites into! I had ordered a local Session beer from Salty Turtle which went perfectly w/the crispy fried chicken. I love a good Session beer for lunch - lower in alcohol (this one is 5.2%) and they're usually a little more effervescent which is great with that crispiness. All the fun bubbles playing with the crunchy, slightly salty skin and just making both taste better. Besides Angel, our server being so much fun, we watched this other young lady working so hard, helping run food, run drinks, bus tables, wipe them down, seating people and every other thing you would thing needs tending to in a restaurant environment. Somehow she had time to stop by and say hi, at which time I asked if she was the manager and yes she was. Her name is Reed and all of a sudden the wonderment of why this restaurant was run so efficiently and why all the staff were friendly and had smiles, became evident. It was their leader who set the tone and they all worked together like a Super Bowl winning football team that had been playing together for years. If the management is lax, or worse, non-existent, there is no organization and no one backing up her team. This restaurant is smart. It runs well, it stays clean, it is a pleasure to sit and dine in their establishment as you can watch a wonderfully choreographed group treat you to an excellent meal. They make your meal more than a good lunch; they make it a wonderful visit all around and I for one truly appreciate it. This was the best fried chicken I have had in years and overall, the best lunch experience we've had in Wilmington since we moved here 7 years ago. Thank you Reed, thank you Angel, thank you to the kitchen staff, and then you Michael Graham for opening Molly Pitcher's 5 years ago and for being fortunate enough to have a staff that is proud to work for you and show you just how amazing they all are individually and as a team. We will be back time and time again. If you haven't been, you should give them a try, just bring a...
Read moreAmazing! Can’t say enough good things about this place. It’s rich in historical vibes while having embrace certain aspects of the modern era. The menu is very much Southern Comfort food, but you can still find healthy and fresh options if you’re watching your waistline. i am not, contrary to my doctor’s pleas. So I order the fish and grits, which I was a little hesitant to get at first but the waitress explained that the grits weren’t loose. They prepare them kinda like a fried polenta. The whole thing is smothered in that pimento cheese sauce and well seasoned. They also top it with fresh pickled pico, it adds the right amount of acid/brightness to the whole thing! My friend got the meatloaf with mash potatoes and gravy. And a side salad… she must be better than me, LOL. I took a little bite and can vouch that the both the meatloaf and gravy are good enough to be from your grandma’s kitchen! Which as a girl growing up in rural Kansas is saying a lot. My grandma never made food from a packet and I think the same is true for Molly Pitcher’s kitchen staff. We ended up splitting a slice of one of the Cakes of the Day: Cherry Spiced Cake. It was EXCELLENT. Also I gave them my two cents of feed back that it would have been the best poke cake ever, which they said they make occasionally. Looks like I’ll have to come back. Next time I’ll have to get a cocktail too. They had several that intrigued me. And they seem to have excellent daily deals throughout the week. If you’re in the area, check this place out. If you’re local to Wilmington and haven’t been yet… What could you possible be doing that means you haven’t tried them yet?!?! Zero excuses! Get...
Read moreWorst dining experience I’ve ever had. If we had a different waitress maybe things would have been different. No one greeted us when we walked in, no big deal but we stood there for 15 mins trying to figure out if we’re supposed to wait to be seated or just seat ourselves. We finally get acknowledged and our orders are taken. We order an app and 2 dinner meals. About 25 more minutes go by and we have not seen our waitress since our order was taken. We were trying to figure out where our app was. We then see the appetizer and dinner coming out together. The waitress only has 1 dinner plate, she then asks me to confirm my order. We sit and wait another 10mins. The other meal never came out. Neither did our waitress to tell us what was going on. Not once was she apologetic until I finally got up and asked a different waitress to just cancel my meal. The crab dip was extremely greasy and the fried chicken was burnt to the point of almost being inedible, she asked what sauce he wanted he specified on the side (it was never on there) and there was no gravy on the mashed potatoes as stated on the menu. No manager came out to apologize, nothing. I was going to call and give the opportunity to make it right but honestly, after spending $40 on inedible food and awful service, the opportunity was right there last night to make it right. And that doesn’t mean “comp the service”‘ just acknowledge that your employee messed up and apologize and do the...
