Today was sadly most likely our last trip to grinders coffee. My partner and I used to visit this little coffee shop often with glee and excitement. But lately every visit has gotten worse. Today visit I walked in put my phone number in and was happy to see that I had enough loyalty points to get either a free drink or a discount on today's purchase. I go to the counter to place my order. I place my partner drink first iced hazelnut latter jumbo 2% milk. I had to say this several times to get his order read back to me correctly. I ask for London Fog with lavender to which the person taking my order looks at me as if I started speaking a new language and told they couldn't make it. Instead of arguing about this I simply say give me Iced hazelnut latte jumbo with 2% as well. When the person goes to check my order he replies back with One jumbo hazelnut latte with 2%, one fog, and one regular latte with milk. I tell him as nicely as I could NO that's not correct at all. Firstly you told me you couldn't make a London fog, so am not sure what a fog is. Next it should be two jumbo hazelnut lattes with 2% milk. He replies it back correctly with my name correct. As my order is being made I look and see everything that is necessary to make a London Fog. Am more annoyed now because my drink could have been made. My name is called my order is ready or so I thought. The girl behind the registry double checks am Ally checks off the order board and I tell her I should have enough points for either a free drink or a discount she tells me no but will add 8 points to my account. Rings me for Only ONE drink. She then rings me up for my other drink!? I had to pay twice for my drinks because you failed to put my order in correctly that I had to ensure that guy behind the counter taking my order didn't screw up. I taste both lattes before leaving neither of them had hazelnut or enough milk in them. I was too annoyed by this point to say anything to staff I just doctor them up for us and left. Grinders get your act together, at point you were the best little coffee shop in town but because of continuing disappointing visits we have had to go seeking for other coffee shops...
Read moreWhat an absolute joke! I was there over the weekend with my husband, a guy was playing music, there was a man with a large fluffy dog sitting at the booth behind the man playing music drinking his coffee and eating a protein ball. I ordered a iced mocha latte. The first one that was given to me had very obvious sour milk. I spoke to one of the ladies behind the counter and she made me a new one, which was much better! One thing I always noticed and liked was the fact that just about every time I've been there I saw people with dogs enjoying their beverages. Well, today I came in with my puppy to grab a coffee. I came here purposely cause I "thought" I could bring my dog in! I was the 6th person on line when I walked in. Everyone on line was super friendly to me and my puppy, which I held in my arms most of the time I was there cause she is only 12 weeks old. I was the next person to be served and the girl behind the counter looked at me and said that they can't have dogs in there. When she said that to me the place for quiet and everyone looked kinda confused. I said excuse me and she said again to me that I can't have my dog in there. I looked at her and said, " So you want me to leave?" And she said , "No, I can still get you something". I stated to her that I've been in here plenty of times and people had dogs in there. She then asked if wanted a water, which really confused me more cause I wanted a coffee not a water. I stated to her that I did not want anything from them today or ever! Whether that is the policy or not, it needs to be consistent! My husband loved this place, even gets fresh beans for his coffee at home and he will not be going here anymore! And yes, I will be telling everyone I know about this super negative experience I had! Don't forget...there's another 20 coffee shops in town that are just as good, and...
Read moreI love this place. It is the best coffee shop to do homework/study, the baristas so friendly and the coffee….. simply amazing! Edit: That comment above is a lie. I used to work at this establishment. We were forced to leave a 5 star review to help boost the service. While working here the staff is given a minimum wage ($7.25/hr) plus tips (MAX $20 cash) which is not increased unless you put in more work…understandable….. but while I was working here I was ASKED to do inventory and promised two raises in the month following. I only received one raise to $8.50/hr, and when I talked to the owner about increasing my pay (because i was not being given enough to pay bills, while working 5-6 days a week and being a full time student at UNCW) she looked at me, laughed, told me “you’re not worth being paid more” and told me that I “should find one or two more jobs”. On top of this, they leave milk in the steamers to reuse throughout the day, constantly being steamed, chilled, steamed again, etc. There is (or when I worked there, was) a roach infestation that was never properly handled. There is very little cleaning that goes on (including mold in the cold brew drainage container) and more. While I was here there were also very many speculations that the owner was stealing our credit card tips and pocketing them for herself. Money would disappear from our pay checks and after doing the math countless times, it never made sense. The owner argued with me that SHE is the one that brings in customers and because of that SHE is the one tipping us…. Okay no. Customers come back because the baristas treat them like friends and family. The owner was rarely even in her own establishment. I cannot emphasize how much you should NOT GO HERE OR GET A JOB HERE. The...
