We called ahead to place our order 45 minutes ahead of time. It was ready by the time we were requested. This is a takeout pizzeria place but they do have outdoor wooden bench tables for seating. The owner was very nice, spent his childhood in the Bronx so his pizzas are NY influenced. This pizzeria is named after his son.
The pizzas are 16-in (not 14-inch like it says on their menu, it was a mistake). Vegan options are available. We tried the margherita ($16.93) and ham ($16.92) pizzas, house salad ($8.99), and the dessert ($3.99). The meal was filling enough for our party of three. The pizza dough was good, crispy. I liked both of the margherita and ham pizzas. The margherita was more like a cheese pizza.
The best part of the pizzas was a house made chili oil, which was very good. The owner recommended to put it on the pizza. If I didn't have reflex problems, I would have doused the whole pizza with it.
The house salad was good too, fresh. It was a simple lettuce, red onion, sliced red, yellow, and green bell peppers, and black olives served with balsamic vinegar and oil.
The meal also came with a few small slices of crusty bread, which were very good.
I didn't have much room for dessert after eating the pizza and salad, but of course I had to taste it. The dessert was warm dough intertwined and drizzled with Nutella. The dessert wasn't too bad..it was a bit crunchy.
This is a solid place for pizzas and...
Read moreLast night I decided to enjoy the Hot Honey Pepperoni pizza from Pizzeria Don Luca downtown before the Hozier show.
I was having a bit of a time trying to deal with parking and the amazing staff were supportive and helpful in figuring out a solution to a problem that had nothing to do with them. Even IF the pizza had been just ok their kindness and humor would have won me over as a fan.
Luckily that wasn't an issue because this pizza was perfection. I'm not normally a big pepperoni fan but these were delicious and thin and paired perfectly with the just right ratio of honey drizzled on top. The under carriage was the right level of done without being charred or too pale, and even though the pie was covered in pepperoni it didn't feel like it overwhelmed the other flavors.
This is quite possibly my new top dog in the non-NY/Long Island style pizza category in town and the menu has something for everyone; from classic margarita to elote and pickle bacon ranch pies (don't knock it till you try it). I almost hesitated to share this review because this place obviously cares so much about quality and customers and I worry about the lines getting long. This place is amazing and truly a crown jewel of the Wilmington dining scene. Great staff, amazing food, and quality pizza. I would recommend this as a must try to anyone in town...
Read moreWe were visiting from the Atlanta, Ga area and were searching online for Gluten-Free restaurants when this pizza place popped up along with several others. The ratings were high and reviews were great so we thought that we would give it a try. There is only outdoor seating at picnic tables which worked out well because we had our dog with us! There is a nice little park across the street and we walked our dog while waiting for our pizza🍕 We had 4 people in our party, myself, my husband and our 2 adult sons along with our dog. My youngest son has Celiac so when we travel we are always looking for good gluten free food options. They offer a cauliflower crust 10" pizza which the guy who took our order said that they do not guarantee "gluten free" if someone is highly sensitive. They don't have separate prep areas so there is a chance of cross contamination. He assured us though that they do everything they can to avoid it. We decided to take our chances. We ordered a regular crust 14" Margherita, a cauliflower crust(which only comes in 10") Hawaiian and a 10" cauliflower crust Supreme. All of the pizzas were very good and my sons enjoyed their cauliflower crust pizzas! The owner came out to check on us and make sure that enjoyed our food🥰 I love it when that happens, it shows a level of pride and a desire for high...
