Dae gee has a lot going for it, but also some shortfalls that can, for the most part, be fixed. The one glaring issue I see is their grill placement. It seems that they repurposed what was already in place for what was supposed to have been a Japanese BBQ party grill setup, took the large flattop out, and put in place two grills. The seating setup remained unchanged, which is fine for a Japanese BBQ party grill, but not so great for a Korean BBQ where you cook the food yourself. It's too far from the edge of the counter so you find yourself leaning a lot. However, it does seem with a large enough party you'd get to use both grills, which isn't common for other kbbq places.
The food was well seasoned, and well portioned (once we worked out the kink I'll get to next). Overall the food was fantastic, and tasted great.
The biggest sticking point I have, and this may be a training issue or how they actually intend to operate, is the fact the server informed me that they typically bring out the ENTIRE list of food under the tier you choose. Right off the bat this seems like a huge food waste problem and potential issue for people with specific diets/allergies. I was not informed of this until I went to try and order my initial dishes, so if this is how they intend the dining experience to be, then it really needs to be broadcast in some way. There are plenty of people who don't eat pork, or seafood, or even chicken. When I brought up that typically you continuously pick what you want out of a tier as you and cook, she was confused and had to verify with what I assume was a manager. He verified I could order how I was explaining, and from them on the experience was just like any other Korean BBQ place.
The server, while new, was very friendly, helpful, and honestly went above and beyond what is typical at a Korean BBQ place. She was a very welcome part of my dining experience, and I hope to see her again when I return.
Overall I was very happy with my dining experience, and will definitely return. Maybe I'll come to like their grill setup, but for now I retain my stance that it's awkward at...
Read moreI am saying this as a 17 year old waitress at a busy restaurant and understand what busy is, it was not busy. You have to make everything your selves. so its not like she had to serve us because we did everything our selves, You can only stay 2 hours before they ask you to leave, they charge if you dont eat most of the food. Cool idea but not if you want to eat because they only bring you about 2 chicken nuggets size of food at a time, we had 6 people in our party and she only brought enough for each of us to eat one nugget at a time. Next we asked for a fork about 5 times and never got a fork. we also never got refills on water and didnt have any water during the last 45 min of our meal. We asked "so what do we do about drinks" because we didnt know how this whole thing worked and she said "ill bring you water to the table" ...so we cant have anything else?? was what I was thinking But anyway we orders the most expensive meal plate which is platinum(50$ per person = 300$) and we only got like 5 small plats with like 3 prices of meat in it.. for 6 people. So we realized we didnt get any shrimp or this or this ... which was supposed to come with our meal, we asked and she said "my bad, I only gave you the food that comes with the 27$ dollar meal but accidentally charged you with the 300$ meal".....WHAT. so we got it sorted out and only paid the 27$ per person...
Read moreFound 3 chin hairs in my food. Our server wouldn’t let us pick and choose our items for the BBQ and rushed us to decide but let the couple next to us choose their items and let them take their time choosing. We waited about 25 minutes before our drink orders were taken. She came back and forgot about our drinks for another 15 minutes. Then we waited for about 5 minutes for her to get straws because she forgot….. paper straws at that lol too. They brought the food out and didn’t turn on the burner. So much food was wasted and tossed away. Parts of the building weren’t finished (dry wall patches/unpainted) the sauces don’t taste good, the food was mid grade and tasted low quality. It wasn’t busy or booked that night and they still took that long. I watched someone take about 7 minutes to clear a table. I could have driven to Raleigh and gotten KPOT for much faster and better service, got my food that’s way better seasoned and I get to CHOOSE what I want, cook it, eat it and driven back. I never write reviews. I like giving new places a chance but this was probably one of the worse experiences...
